Week 10 Preview

If you had a 49er or a Bear and his name wasn’t Matt Forte or Thomas Jones, you woke up Friday feeling sick.

Especially the Toasters, who went with starting QB Alex Smith in place of Matt Schaub — on the bye — scoring just 3.7 points. His home-field advantage is almost worth more points.

It wasn’t any better for the Stank with Michael Crabtree (4.8) and Fear with Johnny Knox (2.5). The Sunday Slackers also had a poor night out of Vernon Davis (1.6) and Team Boyer got 7.5 from Greg Olson and 4.8 from Devin Hester.

Overall, Thursday night football sucked — and why it started before Thanksgiving, God (Ditka) only knows.

Here’s the previews after Thursday’s pillow fight.

Jammers (7-2) at Team Boyer (3-6)

Tom Brady wins Team Boyer three games and what does he get? How about a seat on the bench.

Boyer will go with Matt Hasselbeck over Brady — an interesting move to say the least — but there is some merit for doing it when you look at. I have my own opinions about this, but I withhold them until the recaps.

An interesting game to watch that will have a huge impact on this week for Boyer and the Jammers is the Panthers-Falcons matchup. The Jammers will send out Jonathan Stewart — for the time being, since he is questionable for his 1 p.m. start. If he doesn’t go, Donald Brown will get the nod.

On the other side of the ball is the Burner, Michael Turner, who has been incredible since Week 2, and has been even stronger in the last four weeks, helping Boyer win three of his last four games.

The key for this game will be Big Ben vs. Hasselbeck.

The Steelers should have a much better game than the last time they played Cincinnati and I fully expect the passing game to be a big part of it. Roethlisberger should go for at least 300 and two scores. No matter what he does, he certainly will not do worse than Jammers back-up Jay Cutler. Five INTs, two of which were Hester’s fault and another which was forced in at the end of the game, doomed Cutler’s fantasy output. What would you say now about trading a bunch of great draft picks and Kyle Orton for Rex Grossman… I mean, Jay Cutler.

Ugh. So glad Cutler is not my No. 1. He’s the best bench warmer ever.

The Steelers and the Jammers will each advance their win-streak this week.

Sunday Slackers (6-3) at Dottsville Toasters (7-2)

These two teams aren’t fighting for their playoff lives, but they certainly would like to keep winning as division titles are up for grabs.

While the Toasters has some work to do after getting just 3.7 from QB Alex Smith, I’m certain that this matchup is not over.

With the running attack that I keep harping on, the Toasters are never out of it. Also, the wideouts are pretty slick, too.

Chris Johnson, Ray Rice and Tim Hightower all have favorable matchups and they all should have no problem reaching double-digits. Johnson and Rice also should have no problem reaching 20-plus points this week. And Johnson has a great chance to get 30 or more.

I could hear the Slackers groan louder and louder at the end of each one of those sentences — unless for some reason, he’s reading backward.

Vincent Jackson is at home agianst Philly and the Chargers, and he should get a score this weekend, because the RBs for San Diego certainly will do nothing.

Miles Austin in Green Bay is a good start because of his numbers, however, I think he and the Boys are due for a letdown this week. That could hurt the Toasters.

The Slackers could face the same thing in St. Louis. The Rams have been playing teams tougher of late. I’m not saying they’re going to win, not at all. There’s no chance. But I think the defense for the Saints, which has four TDs in the last three games, will get another score this week, and the Saints will get just 27-28-31 points — which means the offense will be limited in the amount of points it can get.

With three players invested into two or three touchdowns, the Slackers might be in trouble.

That and on the other side is Steven Jackson. He’ll reach double-digits because the Saints give up yards, but scoring will be tough. Still, I don’t think that means it’s impossible. How about this? I think Jackson out-performs Slackers’ Pierre Thomas. How’s that for a prediction?

With that all said, I think the Toasters win this one in a squeaker, 134-129.

T-Money (5-4) at World of Noise (7-2)

It must be nice to have 18.5 points before the 1 p.m. kickoffs on Sunday.

That’s what T-Money has in the bank after Frank Gore went for 104 yards and a TD Thursday.

However nice it may be to have that lead, T-Money has to be a bit worried going into this weekend.

The Noise’s lineup looks prime to explode this weekend.

First of all, the Eagles on the roster should be good for double digits because I expect a huge bounce-back week after that horrid performance against the Cowboys. I expect Donovan McNabb to have at least 300 yards and two or three touchdowns this Sunday.

Second, Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown vs. Tampa Bay. This will be the return of the dynamic duo. These two have been shut down in the last two weeks, but not this weekend. They’ll get back to their combined 30 points a week average.

Tony Romo had a so-so week last week with 20 points, but in Green Bay things might get worse. Yes the Packers defense has been spotty, but this just feels like a low-scoring affair.

Thomas Jones should duplicate Gore’s output for T-Money, but I feel like the wideouts will struggle — not all, but some. Maybe T-Money can slip Chad Johnson a dollar bill to score a fantasy touchdown for him.

Houserville (4-5) at Channel 4 News Team (4-5)

They both have the same record, yet one is a division leader and the other is fighting to remain in the playoff hunt.

News Team leads the Nittany South Division by one game and after Matt Forte posted 16.1 points Thursday, the Reporters look to be in good shape heading into Sunday’s action.

This will be a fun matchup to watch as the day progresses.

The News Team has Brett Favre in a favorable game against the Lions at 1 p.m., whereas the Villains have Peyton Manning in a tough game against the Patriots at 8:20.

Also at 1 is the battle between Cedric Benson and Rashard Mendenhall — but both are on the Villains, which means he’s a big fan of the run this weekend. But I’m not so sure he’ll get what he wants. The Steelers will be passing this weekend and the Bengals will be struggling with the run game with Polamalu back in the lineup. With the Predator back, the rest of the defense can focus on other details.

This defense held Denver to negative yards rushing in the second half last week. It’s amazing what the USC grad does for this defense. It will be on display again.

So, that leaves Marshawn Lynch. (Wait, what happened to Julius Jones? What happened to the Seattle back that the Villains so vehemently supported in preseason? Oh, dropped. Really? That stings. One for me.)

Lynch has scored just one touchdown and has hit double digits only twice. I wouldn’t expect much against a re-energized Titans lineup.

Wow, I must seem very negative on the Villains lineup this week.

Well, I am.

But let’s make up for it. I like both his wideouts this week, if White plays, and think they along with Manning can keep him in this contest, because News Team’s Kevin Smith, Cadillac Williams and Santana Moss are all scary starts. They can make the difference with a surprisingly big week, but they can easily spell doom.

Graybill’s Generals (3-6) at Stanksta’s Gangstas (2-7)

Now for the “Ugh” battle of the week, we have the last-place Generals vs. the last-place Stank.

If there was ever a need for a tie, this would be it — but that’s not what these two teams are thinking.

In fact, this is the playoffs for both.

The Stank, more-so, is in a must-win situation because of how strong the Office Space Conference is, and that means from here on out, he needs wins.

The Generals has some room to work with since he’s just one game out of the division lead. That being said, the Generals do not own any of the tie-breakers against the two teams he’s tied with for last, so it is must-win time, too.

So, I’ll take that “Ugh” out of my title because this matchup is big.

And generally, in a big game, you’d expect experience to weigh heavily, but I’m going to go with the young team. The Stank has built a core of young players with Matt Ryan, Maurice Jones-Drew, LeSean McCoy, Josh Cribbs and Michael Crabtree.

The latter rookie scored 4.8 on Thursday, which is nice for how late in the season he got started, but it’s not what you want out of your fantasy WR.

Still, with Ryan, Jones-Drew, McCoy and Cribbs still left to go, the Stank has a chance to put up a high point total.

The Generals are in a bit of trouble if DeAngelo Williams, who is questionable, does not go. Without the Carolina back, he’d be left with Kevin Faulk and either Darren McFadden or Derrick Ward. That will certainly make up for the 4.8 points by Crabtree.

In fact, it might make the 4.8 points look like gold.

I think this may come down to the a battle between Hines Ward and Percy Harvin, the two wideouts who I think have the best chance for big games Sunday. Ward against Cincinnati should get in the end zone and pile up the yards, while Harvin is going against Detroit, which everyone knows is a recipe for fantasy greatness.

Whichever one of these prophecies comes true should point toward the fantasy winner this week.

That, or if Matt Ryan, who is at Carolina, can return to his Week 2 form when he threw three TDs against the Panthers.

Since then, he’s struggled and in his last four games he’s had point totals in the teens. Fantasy owners don’t like teens associated with their quarterbacks — it means only one of two things, (1) impending loss, (2) or impending suspension/jail time. (Giggidy.)

I like Ryan to get over the teen bubble and Jones-Drew to help keep the Stank alive for one more week.

How’s that smell?

Fear and Loathing (3-6) at Chinese Organ Thieves (3-6)

Fear also is fighting to stay alive in the playoff hunt, while the Organ Thieves can thank the weak Nittany South for his much better 3-6 situation.

Whereas the Thieves slept in on the draft, the Fear absolutely slept through it.

Jamaal Charles, Felix Jones, Fred Jackson and T.J. Houshmanzadeh all have been busts.

The best RB on this roster may be his new acquisition, Julius Jones — and as you know from past blogs, that’s not saying much.

Kurt Warner and Randy Moss keep this team alive, and Fear is Loathing for another big week from these two stars.

Warner will have an easier go with that as the Cards will be playing Seattle, whereas Moss is up against the Colts.

Indianapolis, though, is banged up in its secondary and let Andre Johnson go for 100-plus last week. That means Moss should get the chance to put up similar totals, however, he’ll have to do what Johnson could not do, and that’s break past the goal line.

The Thieves have a few players dealing with injuries, including Marion Barber, Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall. All should go Sunday, but their effectiveness will obviously be crucial.

Fear is in the hole already with Knox scoring 2.5 points Thursday. That means the Thieves have some leeway at WR. Nate Burleson, Johnson and Marshall won’t have to do much to equal that. It’s not three vs. two — what those three can do against Moss and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. (Championship.)

I like the Thieves in this. I think the man who I haven’t mentioned, Adrian Peterson, will have a big day. It’s been a while since he’s had a huge game. He’s scored in every week but two, however, he’s rushed for more than 100 yards only twice.

He’ll make it three this weekend.

And the Thieves will get one step closer to the top of the dreaded Nittany South.
