JFL Week 3 Preview: Post Eagles Loss Preview

It's funny how without knowing, without a purpose, I create an awesome schedule.

Yeah, I'm bragging.

But it's for a good reason.

How many times do we see a big matchup in fantasy feature two fantasy teams whose quarterbacks are also facing each other in real life?

I can't put a number to it; all I can do is attest to the many Jargon previews that have talked about a situation like we'll see this Sunday.

The Jammers (2-0) will travel to Dottsville (2-0) for an early season matchup of undefeateds with the two team's quarterbacks going up against each other.

Man, I really wish I was actually traveling to Dottsville. Have you seen his Facebook? All that beer, including Pumking. Man, I'm in the wrong state.

Instead, I'll just have to sip on a few Captain and colas while watching my Matthew Stafford take on his Robert Griffin III.

The last time I had to sit down on a Sunday hoping RGIII didn't have a big day, he scored 46 points. It was an awful day and the start of a long losing streak.

But that's over now.

Both quarterbacks have had good fantasy seasons to start the year. RGIII has had a pair of big second halves to push his totals high, but nevertheless, he is ranked No. 8 in the JFL. Stafford is ranked 10th, just five fantasy points behind RGIII on the year.

The biggest part of this matchup is the fact that the Lions defense is ranked sixth in pass defense, the Redskins are ranked 32nd. ... Yeah, 32nd. It's time for Stafford to have a field day.

Fortunately for the Toasters, he has Calvin Johnson, so in all likelihood, if the Jammers have a big day from Stafford, Johnson will be involved.

... With that in mind, the Jammers will hope for two things: 1. Reggie Bush plays, and 2. he catches the majority of the passes because Johnson is double-covered. (Editor's note: wrote this before I found out he was out and I'm not changing it now, so deal with it.)

Please let Johnson be double-covered.

That, or, let the Lions defense stop RGIII.

As long as he doesn't score 46 points.

... In case you were wondering, 46 points is 23 two-point conversions. You know, that thing that Chip Kelly goes for when trailing by four in the first quarter.

Trailing by four in the first quarter? Why don't you go for the extra point and make it a field goal game? Then again, a two-point conversion would have made it a safety game. So dumb. This isn't college. Hell, that's a high school move. When you know your kicker sucks, you go for a two-point conversion.

As someone tweeted, "Did Alex Henery have a bad week in practice kicking extra points?"

You would think he did based on what happened in that awful Thursday night game.

It was awful. Only three players had good fantasy nights. Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy both had 20-point nights and kicker Ryan Succop scored 14 points.

Charles gave the News Team a decent start against the Noise — and you don't need much to beat him — and McCoy scored 23.8 points for Graybill in a matchup against division rival Chinese Organ Thieves. ... Plenty of time for Peyton Manning to score 67 points, so who knows, but it is a good start in such a matchup.

Succop, as mentioned, scored 14, but it was on the Jammers' bench. Which is torture because as I watched every field goal kicked, I thought about how I should have started him. Thankfully, the 51-yarder went wide.

Man, am I harping on my matchup too much?

Yeah, I probably am.

So, let's talk about the divisional matchups (outside of Graybill-Thieves) going on. We have Real Houserville vs. Fear and Loathing. We have Sunday Slackers vs. Jawz Attack. And we have T-Money-Spacklers.

First thing to note, Ray Rice is likely out, so the Slackers have to roll with Bernard Pierce. Ouch. That hurts.

But it'd be even worse if the Jawz Attack didn't gain just 5.6 points from Thursday's game. That's right, Dwayne Bowe had 0.6 points and Alex Henery had 3 points. If only Chip Kelly would have gone for the extra point in the first quarter, Jawz Attack would have had 4 points. I hope he doesn't lose by a point.

That would be very upsetting.

Kind of like if the Bills or Browns defense would make a difference. Fear and Houserville, respectively, are both employing the services of these defenses. They are also employing the services of the top tight ends from last year. Houserville has Jimmy Graham, who is by far the No. 1 tight end in the JFL and Fear has Tony Gonzalez who can easily post a Jimmy Graham-like performance.

And that is why the last two grafs will make the difference in this matchup. That is right. For the first time, the tight end and defense will be the be the difference. Typically, it's a QB or RB, but this Sunday, we will point towards the tight end and defense. So who will it be?

Jimmy? Do you have an answer? (Are you typing to yourself?)

Yes, I am.

The answer? Fear. I like the Bills defense to score a TD against the Jets, and I like Tony Gonzalez to have a big day (87 yards and a TD). Jimmy Graham will have some yards, but no TD. And the Browns, well, they'll be exposed.

Why, because the Browns waived the white flag this week. They traded their star running back. Indy will love it. Jawz will love it too, but with only 3.6 points from two players, the Jawz are in trouble. I think Trent Richardson will provide some big-time points with the Colts, but against the 49ers, I'm not sure that it will come right away. Nevertheless, the Jawz are in better shape with the Colts than he was with the Browns.

If it helps him move to 2-1 and the Slackers to 0-3, man, will that trade be the best thing that could have ever happened — especially with the Slackers owning the 49ers defense, you know, that defense he drafted in the sixth round. Who drafts a defense in the sixth round? The answer should be the Noise, but this year, it's the Slackers. At 0-and-2, he has to be thinking that it was a poor decision.

And if 0-and-3 comes, he may stop thinking it and start believing it.
