Week 4 Preview

I’m going to be a little brief for these previews this week, as I mentioned I would the other day.

The previews will be basic, without all the research of series history and whatnot. I’m just going to look at flatout matchups to cut my normal 4-5 hour preview work down to maybe 2 this week.

First, though, I want to say — Hey, look at Kevin Kolb! I told you that we should wait and see what he could do after working with the first-team offense.

I may not get predictions right with Real Houserville all the time, but damn I nailed that one.

Speaking of Houserville, what a jokester, offering me a trade: WR Larry Fitzgerald for RB Julius Jones. Oh, what a character.

Jimmy Jammers (1-2) at Channel 4 News Team (2-1)
You hear me (or read me) talking about matchups. Well, let me tell you about News Team’s good fortune.

His starters play: Detroit, St. Louis, Washington, Miami, Tampa Bay, Washington again, Kansas City and Detroit again. Only starting QB Aaron Rodgers faces a winning team — the Vikings.

That’s got to be nice.

Still, the names going up against those teams aren’t the greatest. Glen Coffee is taking over at RB in San Francisco for an injured Frank Gore.

Cadillac Williams and Matt Forte are nursing injuries and Terrell Owens didn’t have a catch last week, and he really hasn’t been much of a threat this season.

Back to Forte, even if he’s healthy, his carries may suffer. His receptions will not because the Detroit Lions are the worst against the pass this season. QBs have a 124 rating and are completing passes at a 75-percent clip.

Enter Jammers’ quarterback Jay Cutler. I expect — and hope for — a big day out of Cutler.

The running back situation is shaky for the Jammers, as is the wideout spot with Fitzgerald on the BYE. That leaves Kenny Britt and Davone Bess to pick up the mess.

They might be picking up a mess of a 1-3 record.

Real Houserville (0-3) at Fear and Loathing (2-1)
A nice little Ball-and-Chain Division battle, and Real Houserville is in a must-win situation.

He might just get it, too.

Steve Slaton and Cedric Benson will headline this matchup with at least 20 points each, and Peyton Manning will throw all over Seattle.

Still, Fear and Loathing has a trio of wideouts and a back who are sure to put up some points.

Randy Moss, Mario Manningham and Johnny Knox all have great matchups this week and they should provide Fear with at least 15 points each. I expect one of them to go long and score more.

A win for Fear will set up a major matchup against World of Noise for first place.

Team Boyer (0-3) at T-Money (1-2)
Can things get any uglier for Team Boyer?

Short answer. Yes.

But will it?

No. I don’t think so.

T-Money will be looking to catch up to the 3-0 Toasters, but Boyer will prove to be a tough test.

Let’s compare:

Tom Brady should have a better week than Tony Romo. Plain and simple, the Ravens defense isn’t what it used to be. They’re giving up yards and points. They’ll do the same with Brady at the helm.

Romo, on the other hand, is going up against Denver and that’s has been a rough go for more than just quarterbacks. The Broncos defense has been strong all season, leading the team to a 3-0 record. (I’d be uber surprised if it wasn’t for the fact that World of Noise is also 3-0.)

One other potential high scoring mark for Boyer could be Devin Hester, who has shown flashes of being a “good” wide receiver. Cutler should find him often against the Lions.

And then, maybe at 1-3, Boyer will be able to get back on track and try to get into the playoff race.

Chinese Organ Thieves (1-2) at Graybill’s Generals (1-2)
Well, News Team owns the division lead right now.

This matchup will decide who is the front-runner in the race to catch up to News Team.

The Generals are at a distinct disadvantage in that he’s without DeAngelo Williams, who is on the BYE.

The Organ Thieves have all of their players, including Phillip Rivers, Adrian Peterson, Marion Barber, and three wideouts — Brandon Marshall, Calvin Johnson, and Roy Williams.

The wideouts have been off and on this season so who knows — not even the Thieves — if they’ll come through.

Still, the Generals can counter with Eli Manning vs. the Chiefs and Darren McFadden against the Texans. Yes, McFadden sucked last week, but remember what I wrote above — the Texans have the worst run defense in the league.

I’m going to go with the Thieves in this one. Peterson had just 9.9 points, which means he should be due for another big week.

Dottsville Toasters (3-0) at World of Noise (3-0)
The Toasters are 3-0 and going back to Matt Schaub at quarterback.

He won’t even need him.

The Toasters will win and they will win big this week.

Yeah, I said it.

And yes, the Toasters just woke up Sunday morning, read this and said, “Son of a bee-sting.”

I don’t think this will jinx it.

I expect big days from Chris Johnson and Correll Buckhalter.

(Did I just say, ‘Correll Buckhalter?’)

I also like Vincent Jackson against the Steelers. The secondary is still short one Polomalu, and even if he does start, they’ll be short one healthy, 100-percent Polomalu.

Cooley vs. Tampa Bay should be worth 10 points and the Bears should chew away 20 points on defense.

Noise is without Westbrook and Kolb, who are on the BYE, so insert Jason Campbell and Chester Taylor. Icky.

Toasters will be 4-0.

Stanksta’s Gangsta’s (1-2) at Sunday Slackers (3-0)
The Stank is 1-0 in the division and with a chance to make it 2-0, he hits the BYE with Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and LeSean McCoy.

Not that Ryan and Gonzalez had great weeks last week,

He’s in luck that Drew Brees also has a tough matchup against the Jets defense that has been stout all season.

That should also affect Marques Colston.

It will affect the Saints so much that the Slackers aren’t starting his New Orleans’ running backs.

Instead, he’s going with Steven Jackson, who has been a bust thus far, and Willis McGahee, who has been a surprise, but is going against the Patriots. That should limit his success — I mean, he was playing the Browns last week. Even World of Noise’s backup running backs could go for two scores against the Browns.

Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith (NY) should be the Slackers’ top scorers.

Stanks will need big days from his running backs Jones-Drew, who went for three scores last week, and Brandon Jacobs, who is going to run over the Chiefs defense.

The ESPN projections have this as a Slackers’ blowout. I, on the other hand, think this will be close. So close that I’m not even going to guess. I’ll leave that up to you.

…. To be continued…..
