Week 12.1 Preview

Ah, Turkey Day.

A day that will not affect most of us fantasy owners, mainly because nobody cares to have Lions and Raiders on our teams.

Even the Broncos and Giants do not offer much when it comes to fantasy stars.

Effectively, the best fantasy players suiting up on Thanksgiving are Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant and Greg Jennings; Lions’ Kevin Smith (and maybe Calvin Johnson); Giants’ Eli Manning; and Broncos’ Brandon Marshall.

That’s right, Raiders. No one. Start drafting better and maybe we’ll start drafting your guys.

The matchup that will be affected the most Thursday will be the Nittany South Divisional contest between first-place Channel 4 News Team and Chinese Organ Theives.

The News Team will report to Week 12 with Rodgers getting the early start along with the Giants defense later that night.

I love Rodgers against the Lions, however, I’m questionable about the Giants on a short week road trip to Mile High.

Still, News Team should wake up Friday stuffed with turkey and about 50 points — 35 from Rodgers, 15 from the G-Men.

As for the Thieves, he has four guys going in Marion Barber, Zach Miller, and the aforementioned wideouts, Johnson and Marshall.

Johnson is dealing with an injured hand and is projected to get just 1.1 points. You might see the Thieves start Nate Burleson against the Rams, rather than try a banged-up Calvin on short rest.

Nevertheless, Marshall will still be a go and with Kyle Orton back in the lineup, I like his chances to produce. I actually like the Broncos to end the losing streak and pick up a solid win over the Giants this weekend. I see it as very possible for Marshall to have a big fantasy impact, 20 points or more, this week.

Marion Barber hasn’t scored since Week 8 and has an injured thumb. Still, he’ll have a good chance of enjoying some warm touchdown pie Thursday going against the 30th-ranked run defense in the league. I’d say double-digits isn’t out of the question.

If Barber falls short here, one has to wonder if the Dallas run game will ever get going — or the offense for that matter.

This team has been horrible in its last two games. They have been shutout in the first 50-plus minutes of their last two games.

So one has to wonder what the Raiders’ game will do for this team. One thing is for certain, if there’s a zero or a few field goals on the scoreboard heading into the fourth, the Dallas crowd will begin to wonder why they gave up a great meal for this unfocused, unorganized, underachieving team.

Trust me, you don’t pry Texans away from their food often, and when you do, it better be good. They’re not looking to see Romo make mistake after mistake.

Did someone say, “Steak?”

Speaking of Romo, let’s talk about T-Money. He’ll certainly have his eye on Romo Thursday, too.

It’s been a rough go these last couple weeks with Romo — just 700 yards and three TDs in his last three games. He’s had three interceptions and two fumbles in that time.

The fantasy points have dropped off as well, 20.7 to 16.1 to 11.9.

This game of limbo has T-Money wondering how low can the stick go? Worst of all, during this three-game slide of points from Romo, T-Money is 0-3.

With a playoff bid looking good at 5-3, the 5-6 T-Money will be fighting for his life against two of the League’s top scorers in the Slackers and the Toasters.

Against the Slackers, he could use a good start from Romo to get Week 12 moving. Preferably, he’d like Romo to throw to Patrick Crayton, who also will get the Turkey Day start for T-Money.

The Slackers have just Steve Smith (NYG) going.

In the Team Boyer-Toasters matchup, Boyer will go with Ryan Grant, who should figure to have a double-digit performance against the Lions.

For every TD he scores, the Toasters will get a point from kicker Mason Crosby. The Toast will hope for a few drives to fall in the red zone, though, and end in a field goal.

Later that night, the Toasters will look for Kevin Boss to try and match his 19.6 points from a week ago. Not likely, but the Giants will be without Bradshaw, leaving the run game short a back. That means the short passes might be a substitute for the run, which in turn means TE hooks and ins and outs.

In the Generals-Fear and Loathing battle, a matchup of former Sentinel employees, the two will not see much on the scoreboard on Friday.

The Generals could have a 14-10 lead as he has Donald Driver against the Lions and Fear has kicker Nick Folk for the Cowboys.

This matchup starts Sunday.

In the battle of the loudest two owners in the JFL, Houserville and Noise will be fairly quiet Thursday.

If Jason Witten were healthy, Houserville could get a decent 18-point performance; instead, he’ll be stuck with Packers Jermichael Finley against the Lions. There’s potential there, but Finley isn’t as “money-in-the-bank” as Witten.

Lastly, the Jammers have kicker Matt Prater against the Giants, which should be good for seven to 10 points; while division rival Stanksta’s Gangstas has Brandon Jacobs. As mentioned, the Giants are without Bradshaw, which is good for the Stank. Jacobs hasn’t had 100 yards rushing since the middle of LAST season. He’ll at least be afforded the opportunity to do this Thursday.

Unless, of course, this game gets out of hand early and the Broncos take a two-score lead. Then Eli will throw and Jacobs will be an afterthought.

At least if that happens, Stank has the Broncos defense and he’ll take advantage of points that way.

A win-win for a team with two games left in 2009.
