Wild Card Previews: Week 14

Well, it’s playoff time, and we have four great matchups starting tonight.

The Houserville-Jammers matchup has a lot riding on tonight’s Steelers-Browns game, so it should be an explosive start to the weekend.

Here are the previews:

No. 4 Houserville (7-6) at No. 1 Jammers (10-3)
So we meet again.

This is where Houserville’s season ended last year, in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

By Friday morning, he could know his fate.

With three Jammers and one Houserville player going Thursday night, it could either be doom for the Jammers or a big boost.

It’s simple. If the Steelers air it out, Jammers wins.

If they run the ball, Houserville wins with Rashard Mendenhall.

So, simply put, a 10-7 game kills the Jammers with Big Ben, Santonio Holmes and Heath Miller dedicated to Week 14.

Fortunately, it’s the Browns and the Steelers should continue to air it out as they often do. The Steelers defense hasn’t shown that it can stop anyone — Raiders, Chiefs, etc. — so why will that change tonight on a short week?

This could be a high-scoring shootout which will benefit the Jammers.

The rest of the weekend looks good for the Jammers with LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles in Dallas, which gave up 31 to the Giants last week; Larry Fitzgerald in San Francisco; and Joseph Addai at home against Denver.

The Saints defense against a decimated Atlanta offense isn’t too bad either.

On the other side, Peyton should be Peyton, and the Jammers has to hope for the reverse of Thursday, more run vs. pass.

Outside of Manning, though, there is reason for concern. Cedric Benson is in Minnesota against a very good run defense, Roddy White is against the aforementioned Saints without a quarterback and Mike Sims-Walker, who has been inconsistent, is against Miami.

Houserville also will start Quinton Ganther at RB. (He plays for the Redskins for those of you who immediately asked, “Who?”

Overall, it comes down to the Steelers game, which I believe should be a 34-24 style game.

With that being my belief, I’m going to go with the Jammers (of course) winning 123-101.

Houserville, of course, will agree with the ESPN prediction: Houserville 127-119.

No. 3 Slackers (7-6) at No. 2 World of Noise
Just as the Jammers are relying heavily on the Steelers, the Slackers are praying for the Saints to come through.

Four, count them, four Saints will start for the Slackers against Atlanta.

Drew Brees, Pierre Thomas, Robert Meachem and Marques Colston will all go and by 4 p.m. Sunday, Parker will either be singing or crying.

They combined for 62-plus points against Atlanta when the Saints and Falcons met earlier this season.

If they don’t get it done, it’s up to an injured Steven Jackson and Reggie Wayne to pick up the slack.

On the other side, the Noise has four players going for the Eagles — no surprise — but it’s a better situation because two of the four are the Eagles defense and kicker David Akers.

His position players are scattered about more, with Ricky Williams in Jacksonville, Andre Johnson in Seattle, Laurence Maroney in Carolina and Jerricho Cotchery in Tampa Bay.

I like all four for double-digits, and I kind of like Johnson for 20 points against Seattle.

I feel like the Saints defense is going to generate some offense in Atlanta, so the Slackers will miss out on points there; however, the Giants-Eagles game will not be the blowout it was last time.

I’m going to assume the Saints quartet gets 50 points together, but that will not be enough. The Slackers needs 70 to beat the Noise.

Basterds win 126-109.

No. 3 T-Money (6-7) at No. 2 Channel 4 News Team (8-5)
It’s his bugaboo and like Romo about December, T-Money is probably tired of me typing this.

Three playoff berths, three early playoff exits.

It’s time for change in the fourth.

T-Money has the lineup and the matchups to get to the conference semifinals and rematch against division rival Toasters.

Tony Romo and the ‘Boys will likely not beat the Chargers, but a valiant effort will give T-Money enough points to smile.

Thomas Jones will be used a lot against Tampa Bay as Mark Sanchez is out, leaving backup Kellen Clemons to take over. This should lead to a more run-oriented offense.

Knowshon Moreno has been used in more of a passing role, and the Broncos should be doing a lot of that to match the Colts’ offense.

Chad Johnson will not grab the Vikings’ horn and blow it this week, but I’m sure he’ll score.

So will Anquan Boldin against San Fran. I also like Pierre Garcon for a lot of yards.

On the other side, Aaron Rodgers is a great candidate for the JFL’s MVP.

He’ll need to solidify that this weekend. The News Team is relying on a lot of fantasy one-hit wonders to come together this week and lead him to the next round. Kevin Smith, Cadillac Williams, Santana Moss and Donnie Avery are all hit-or-miss. Even Matt Forte has been spotty.

So here’s to Mmm Bop and New Radicals, because one-hit wonders are so nice when they happen.

For News Team, it would be his second straight berth into the conference finals — a far cry from the two straight No. 1 draft pick years he had in 2006 and 2007.

If only the Lions knew how to build like the News Team.

I believe this matchup is the closest and toughest to pick, but I’m going to go with the MVP and the trend.

I like Rodgers to pile up the points and T-Money to keep the story-line going.

News Team 110, T-Money 106.

No. 4 Boyer (6-7) at Toasters (9-4)
All that work. All those points. All those wins.

To have to the 2009 season end in the first round would be devastating.

Don’t worry, Toasters. It won’t, as mentioned in the last preview capsule.

This will be the lopsided matchup of the week.

Tom Brady and Wes Welker will keep Boyer in this game for a bit, but by the time Chris Johnson leaves the field at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Toasters will be in complete control.

Johnson is up against St. Louis, Ray Rice is against Detroit and Greg Jennings is in Chicago where Rodgers will be going nuts.

Matt Schaub, if healthy, should have a field day against Seattle and Miles Austin and Vincent Jackson could feasibly go back and forth with scores.

Either way, it’s the Toasters in this one without a doubt.

Toasters 153, Boyer 101.
