The Curse of Speaking Up

The curse of breaking silence has struck again in fantasy baseball.

And it's a real bummer, because I personally love when everyone is interacting in fantasy and I hope to have our most interactive baseball season to date.

Heading into season four, I plan to add to the excitement with weekly capsules and columns throughout. I encourage everyone to start baseball conversations on the messageboard, whether it's fantasy or not.

But, even though I'm encouraging it, after Tuesday, I'm not sure if anyone will want to speak.

Last season, the Gameday Gamblers put together a snappy piece on how Johnny Cueto was snubbed from the All-Star team. He made points, back them up with facts and convinced myself and others that he was right.

Cueto’s ERA blew up after that and he was eventually shut down for the season.

Ouch.

Snub what?

Now, the Backward Ks wish they could go backward in time.

Sending out this mass e-mail has got to have him wishing he would have remained quiet:

Hello everyone,

Did your team lack that late inning guy last season that could close out games? Did you constantly lose the saves category week after week? Then come on down to the Backward K's where we have closers for sale! Brian Wilson (38 saves, 10.33 K/9) is available, as well as David Aardsma (38/42 save opportunities) and Frank Francisco (31 proj saves). We consider all offers but what we really need is starting pitchers or draft picks! So come on down and make an offer today!

Why were all three of these closers on the trading block?

Well, with Joe Nathan shutting the door for the Ks, there was no need to keep any of these guys.

Fast forward to Monday when Nathan feels discomfort in his arm, leaves camp for examination and announces Tuesday that he has a torn UCL and Tommy John surgery is the likely solution.

That means at least a year off for Nathan.

That means the Ks blowout sale is over.

Double ouch.
