Sounds the sirens

Quick, under the desks.

Sound the alarm.

Prepare the countermeasures.

Get the President to the bunker.

The Bombers are here.

The NJ Bombers and the Gameday Gamblers have established themselves as early front-runners in the Ron Burgundy League; and no one has done that in the Office Space League.

The Bombers are doing it both on offense and defense.

Seven of 10 starters have 10 or more RBIs; six of them are batting better-than .300; they have a combined eight triples (my team has zero); and they have more than 100 runs scored and 150 singles.

Ridiculous start.

And if that wasn’t enough, his worst two starting pitchers according to ERA are Joel Pineiro (3.42) and AJ Burnett (3.20), and they’re a combined 4-2 with five quality starts.

Four starters have ERAs lower than 2.00 with four starts in the bag already. Andy Pettitte is 3-0 with four quality starts and a 1.29 ERA; Francisco Liriano (who I hesitated to draft one round too many) is 2-0 with three quality starts and a 1.29 ERA; Justin Duschscherer is 2-0 with a 1.82 ERA; and Jaime Garcia is 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA and three quality starts.

The slackers are Jered Weaver at 3-0 with five quality starts and a whopping 2.53 ERA and Dallas Braden at 3-0 with four quality starts and 2.77 ERA.

If this keeps up, this will be a record-setting year for the Bombers, and it quite possibly go down as one of the best fantasy pitching staffs ever. I can’t recall a greater collection of starters.

Statistically, the Dolphs Destroyers’ crew of Felix Hernandez, Adam Wainwright and Justin Verlander were top notch last season, but that was just three guys.

It just cannot match what we’re seeing with the Bombers.

Overall, as a league, the ERAs are down throughout.

Last season, I was writing about how the league’s ERA was extremely high, but we’re seeing a bit of a change this year with that.

It is for that reason that the Bombers sit firmly atop the Ron Burgundy League and will be there for the rest of the season at this rate.

And just imagine is somehow Brandon Webb could come off the DL and produce. It’s a longshot, but so were many of these draft picks.

The Gameday Gamblers are in second in the RBL, and his pitching staff has some studs and surprises, but cannot come close to touching the Bombers right now.

Ubaldo Jimenez is the only noteworthy mark here at 4-0 with an 0.95 ERA (and a no-hitter). David Price, Wade Davis and Jorge De La Rosa, have been nice additions; but Dan Haren’s ERA is high and Clayton Kershaw has just one win and two quality starts because he can’t get out of the fifth inning.

Aaron Cook and Derek Lowe have been horrible, but the Gamblers cannot resist to start a “PP” so they’ll continue to trek out there with their 5-something ERAs, which will make the battle between the Bombers and the Gamblers an interesting one to watch as we head into May.

While the Stank, Dolphs, Sex Panthers and Bad News Bears all sit 10-plus games back, there’s still plenty of time and plenty of hope for 2010.

Especially for the Bears. Any other year, the BN Bears would be about 40 games out by now.

Times are changing.

The Office Space League is much different.

Only 8 ½ games separate the No. 1 Vandelay Industries and the No. 6 Noisy Basterds — and only 3 ½ games separate the top four teams.

Each team has had its good week and each one has had a bad one, so May will be interesting to see who decides to take charge of this division and run with it — or will it be a never-ending back-and-forth battle.

The Industries strength thus far has been pitching — Halladay, Satanna, Romero and Gallardo have been strong starters and relievers Soria, Bailey, Lindstrom, Feliz and Madson have 19 saves this season.

The outfield might be one of the best in fantasy baseball, right now.

Carl Crawford, Matt Kemp and Jayson Werth have been major contributors on offense, as has Lind, and at times, the young Jason Heyward.

The big thing for the Industries will be if any of the many prospects will come up in the next month or two to bolster the offense. If Mike Stanton comes up to the Florida Marlins, it could be trading time for the Industries. Six outfielders for five spots is nice leverage to have.
