Big Ugly in Big Easy

Thursday's can be either great or awful.

It really depends.

This Thursday, it was awful, and that's me being nice about it.

After one drive, I was pumped, on the edge of my seat and happy with Drew Brees' quick scoring drive and anxious for what was to come next.

The answer: Not much.

Heck, I almost dozed off during the VIkings nine-minute field-goal drive.

That's right, just a field goal.

New NFL rule: If your drive lasts longer than seven minutes and you kick a field goal, the point value of the field goal loses a point for every minute above seven. So, in this case, the Vikings should have gotten just one point for that kick.

The same amount of points that were lost when Longwell missed an extra point.

He at least made one field goal and finished in the positives. On the other side, Garrett Harley missed two field goals and finished with a negative-1 for Jawz Attack.

Not a great way to start the 2010 Fantasy Season. You lead 2-0 because of home-field advantage before the start of Thursday's game. By the time you head to bed anxious for Sunday, you have just one point.

It's OK though because his opponent, the Slackers, did not have the opening night desired. Drew Brees threw for 237 yards and a TD for just 16.9 points. Robert Meachem had 3.9 points on 33 yards and three catches and Longwell had three points. That leaves six positions left for the Slackers, opposed to the Attack's full lineup.

Fear and Loathing was the only "winner" Thursday as running back Pierre Thomas finished with 71 yards, a TD and 15.2 fantasy points. It's points from a spot in the line up that weren't expected and increased his chances of taking down rival Houserville.

The Organ Thieves had a great night by tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, who apparently is the only one who Brett Favre can trust. I was told that all night by Chris Collinsworth, so it must be true.

Shiancoe helped ease the pain of Adrian Peterson's 10.7 points, but nevertheless, the Thieves are still in good shape to defeat the Generals in Week 1.
