Week 3 Preview

Oh what a Week 3 we have.

There are three heated division battles that have first-place implications, and another division battle that can turn around a slumping franchise.

I'm excited. It makes me wish that I didn't schedule the fantasy hockey draft for Sunday night. I will likely be having a poor hockey draft.

Chinese Organ Thieves (2-0) at Channel 4 News Team (2-0)
Series Record: News Team leads 5-3.
Last Meeting: Week 12 (2009), News Team won 109.1-107.5

Matchup Notes: If you're bored with watching your matchup on Fantasycast, how about you turn this one on.

Three of their last four matchups have been decided by six or fewer points, including the last outing that ending with a 1.6-point margin.

They've got the potential to do the same thing this Sunday, but it will be high scoring.

The Theives and the News Team have put up big numbers in their two wins this season. In fact, it's been easy wins for both squads, so finally, they will have a challenge.

For the News Team, the challenge will come at quarterback with Aaron Rodgers playing in Chicago on Monday night. The Bears have played surprisingly well, and their defense has been strong.

On Monday night at Soldier's Field, I'm sure they'll be up and ready, but will they be able to handle Rodgers?

I seriously doubt it and I easily see a shootout between the Bears and the Packers.

Which means it could be a big Monday for the News Team. In all likelihood, due to the nature of this matchup, he'll be trailing before kickoff Monday.

It's just a matter of by how much.

And Phillip Rivers, Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy will have something to say about it.

Rivers will get the chance to show the NFL world that the Seahawks are not as good as their Week 1 performance suggested.

I'm sure he'll do just that against a Seattle defense that gave up 31 points last week.

And if Rivers is licking his chops, I cannot imagine what Peterson is doing with the Lions on tap. After LeSean McCoy's big day, Peterson must be pushing the Vikings coaching staff for some carries.

If the 0-2 Vikings want to get a win, they'll ride AP for the W.

McCoy also should have a good day just for the sheer fact that Michael Vick is starting. What Vick does for McCoy is create the opportunity for Shady to earn an MVP award. (Mark it down.)

Thomas Jones may struggle against the San Francisco defense, which should start to turn around. You saw it a bit last week as the Saints scored the majority of their 22 points after offensive mistakes put their backs to the wall.

Still, a TD for Jones could be easily attained.

I also like Reggie Wayne as long as Peyton Manning is quarterback, and Visanthe Shiancoe should be successful for the same reasons Peterson will be (vs. Lions).

And the Ravens defense is up against the Browns. Enough said.

The News Team's running back situation is a bit shaky in Week 3.

Knowshon Moreno, who has quietly reached double-digits in the each of the first two weeks, has been ruled inactive this week, leaving it up to Arian Foster to carry the load.

Foster returned to Earth last week after 43 points in Week 1, and this week, he'll be facing Dallas at home and will have some trouble against that Dallas interior defensive front.

And by trouble, I mean he's not running for 231 yards. However, he's still going to get some chances as the Texans' passing game will open up some running lanes. Plus, if the Texans take a nice lead, it will be Foster time.

Tim Hightower will be a good matchup against Oakland, but only if Beanie Wells is inactive again— and that's quite the possibility.

In for Moreno is Donald Brown, who hit 15 points, but that had a lot to do with the fact that the Colts were destroying the Giants.

The Broncos will lose this week, but it won't be a 25-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter.

So it's up to the most exciting player News Team has this week: DeSean Jackson, who said, "We're going to have some fun," when he was informed live on a television interview that the Eagles announced Vick as the starter.

I can believe that.

DeSean will be the high scorer for News Team, that's my prediction.

But it won't help. That's my other prediction.

Jammers’ Prediction: Thieves 141, News Team 131

Team Boyer (2-0) at Dottsville Toasters (2-0)
Series Record: Toasters leads 6-4
Last Meeting: Wild Card Round (2009), Toasters won 179-93.8

Matchup Notes: Team Boyer? More like Team Injured.

Tom Brady, Michael Turner, Ryan Matthews, Joseph Addai, Hines Ward and Jason Witten are all Team Boyer starters listed on injury lists this week. So are bench players Cadillac Williams, Nate Burleson, Mike Williams (SEA) and Sidney Rice.

Doctor?

Some of these guys will play, but it is worrisome that Ryan Matthews is doubtful and Joseph Addai is questionable.

All of this will severely impact his performance against the Toasters, a game Boyer desperately wants to win to avenge last season's Wild Card Massacre.

The Toasters hanged 179 points on Boyer to advance.

It may not be a record-breaking day for the Toasters, but he still may win this matchup easily — just for the mere fact that Boyer's lineup is re-inacting Episode 6 in Band of Brothers.

"Medic! I need a medic! Get to your foxhole!"

Boyer might want to hide in a foxhole if Chris Johnson gets back on track.

Going up against a banged up Giants defense that has allowed double-digits to running backs in two straight weeks, including 26.9 fantasy points last week.

Johnson also is upset about last week's performance — individually and as a team — and I expect to see a good 140 yards and two, maybe three scores from him Sunday.

To counter that, Boyer has his own pissed off player.

After losing to the Jets last week, Tom Brady is going to come out and shred the Buffalo Bills at home. We're talking about four to five touchdowns, a good 300 yards.

It's kind of like last season after the Pats lost on the road to the Broncos. He came home to throw for 380 yards and six touchdowns.

Sunday will be similar.

But even Brady's biggest day may not be enough, because Matt Schaub will win the shootout against Dallas and I like Darren Sproles against Seattle, along with Vernon Davis at KC.

Jammers’ Prediction: Toasters 120, Boyer 98

Jawz Attack (1-1) at Jammers (1-1)
Series Record: First meeting

Matchup Notes: In the third first-place battle of the weekend, the JFL's newest franchise will go up against the JFL's winningest franchise.

Though the Attack and Jammers are squaring off in Week 3, it may be their Week 13 battle that means more.

By then, the Attack will have their starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the lineup.

Right now and until Week 6, it's survival mode for the Attack, just like the Steelers.

With a win this week, the Attack would own a 2-1 record, including a 2-0 division record, and that would be the perfect start as Big Ben waits to take over.

That said, it's going to be tough.

Derek Anderson did not have a good week last week and will look to turn around at home against the Raiders. That should do it, but the Jammers has the equalizer if Anderson targets Larry Fitzgerald more than others on the lineup.

The Attack also has some questions at running back.

It might be a Mike Tolbert week, who's only other fantasy start in the JFL came for the Jammers two years ago, if Clinton Portis can't go. He's questionable heading into Sunday's matchup.

Maurice Jones-Drew also is injured, but he will likely play against the Eagles, who get Stewart Bradley back in the middle.

The other question is with Marion Barber, who has had only 19 carries in two weeks. That's not because the Cowboys are using another running back. It's because they're not using any. They have thrown 100 passes to 31 runs this season — a pass-run ratio that makes Andy Reid salivate (so does a cheesesteak).

But Jawz isn't alone.

The Jammers' two backs aren't sure things either. Ray Rice is probable, and if he does play, the Ravens, who plan to get back to their run game after a few bad games by Joe Flacco, are picking the right week to do it. Cleveland gave up 132 rushing yards last week and Rice would love to get more involved.

And Jahvid Best is coming off of a 45-point week, on the bench. Now he's up against Minnesota, which has been much more effective against the run than the Eagles. The turf in Minnesota will help Best with speed, but he could be bottled up by the Vikings defense. It's a move by the Jammers that is hit or miss. All Best needs is one hole to open to break off a huge TD and make it a double-digit fantasy day. Two holes and he's back to Week 2 status.

By the way, random fact I heard on the radio. Best is the first player to score his team's first five touchdowns in a season in 90 years.

Seems like it's been that long since the Lions have been good.

A big day by Best will help the Jammers, of course, but the key lies in the the Atlanta-New Orleans matchup.

With Matt Ryan and Roddy White going, the Jammers will be counting on a big day from his duo. I actually like the Falcons to win this weekend, and I thought I was crazy for picking this in my picks league, but I heard a lot of NFL Sirius radio hosts agree with me.

Still, history is not on my side. Atlanta is 1-7 against the Saints in their last eight games.

But the Saints haven't shown me anything yet this season, and the injuries on both sides of the ball are piling up. Kind of like Team Boyer.

Jammers’ Bias Prediction (which had the margin of victory right last week: Jammers 118, Attack 97

Real Houserville (0-2) at World of Noise (0-2)
Series Record: Houserville leads 3-2
Last Meeting: Conference Finals (2009), Noise won 156.5-101.3

Matchup Notes: Houserville may be the best team to start 0-2.

And after this week, he will be the best 1-2 team.

Do I have to even preview this any more?

Let's just do it this way.

Peyton Manning vs. Chad Henne.

Manning in Denver, Henne against the Jets. I'll take Manning by several fantasy points.

Houserville's Rashard Mendenhall and Darren McFadden vs. Noise's Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

Well, Mendenhall is up against the Bucs and McFadden is up against Arizona. That's big points for both, whereas Brown and Williams will be splitting points against teh Jets.

Hmm, I'll take Houserville in the running back category by several points.

Wideouts. First of all, the Noise's Dallas Clark and Austin Collie will wipe out any points that Manning gets (so Manning better throw to Reggie Wayne all weekend), but Houserville's Brandon Marshall will do the same for Henne.

That leaves an injured Andre Johnson and Wes Welker against Houserville's Greg Jennings and Jermichael Finley.

I like the Packers receivers this week just as much as I like Welker, so we'll just say the wideouts are even.

Houserville will have the better defense with the Eagles against Jacksonville — come on, Garrard threw four picks last week — and so the advantage goes to Dawson there.

And who cares about kickers, but if I had to pick one I guess I'd go with Akers because he was a sixth-round pick or something like that, so advantage Noise.

But if you were keeping track, the overall advantage goes to Houserville.

That's right, 1-2 is coming.

Jammers’ Prediction: Houserville 133, Noise 101

Fear and Loathing (2-0) at T-Money (0-2)
Series Record: Fear leads 3-2.
Last Meeting: Week 3 (2009), Fear won 105.8-85.2

Matchup Notes: Andy Reid shocked the football world when he made the obvious decision that Michael Vick was the best QB for Philly right now.

And now, Fear has made the same decision for his team, benching Jay Cutler for Vick. Last week, Vick scored 31.7 points in the starting lineup for Fear, while benched Cutler scored 31.8.

That means Fear is in good shape for the time being. For Fear, Vick is the clear starter for the time being because it's like having a running back at quarterback. There's no quicker way for a QB to rack up points than to rush for 100 yards, like Vick did last week.

Vick isn't the only great play for the Fear this week.

Jamaal Charles will be in the game a lot as Kansas City will be trying to come back against San Francisco and Pierre Thomas will get plenty of touches with Reggie Bush out.

And Randy Moss and the Patriots defense should finish off T-Money this week.

Moss against the Bills defense is good for double-digits and the Pats defense against whoever the Bills want to use at QB is good for me.

On the other side, T-Money has good matchups in Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin and Antonio Gates, but it will not be enough.

This could get interesting if Jason Snelling cracks the lineup for both T-Money and the Falcons.

But he's on the bench right now.

Jammers’ Prediction: Fear 120, T-Money 113

Sunday Slackers (0-2) at Graybill's Generals (0-2)
Series Record: Tied 1-1
Last Meeting: Week 3 (2009), Slackers won 101.7-99.4

Matchup Notes: Well, someone is going to get a win this week. Or should. A tie is still a possibility in the JFL, but it's very hard to do.

For these two winless squads, scoring 100 points has been hard to do, too.

Actually, the Slackers haven't cracked 85 points in a game. And even worse, the Generals haven't score 96 points. .... in two games combined.

It's been a tough start for these two teams.

But as stated before, there's good news. Someone should win this week.

The question is who?

Would you call me crazy if I call the upset?

OK, well here it goes.

I'm still not jumping off the Flacco train. And against Cleveland, the Ravens can get him back on track. This could be a 30-point weekend for Flacco. Conversely, Drew Brees hasn't exploded yet. He had 25.6 points last week, but it isn't the Brees we saw early last season, and in a divisional game against the Falcons, there will not be a lot of points for Brees to control.

I think Steven Jackson isn't due for many points against the Washington defense, and Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith will have some trouble as Eli Manning is without starting center O'Hara, among other lineman, which will make it tough to pass. The Titans defense has been strong against the pass all season and that will continue at New Giants Stadium.

On the other side, the Generals DeAngelo Williams will get a lot of touches this week with rookie Jimmy Clausen starting at QB, and C.J. Spiller should get some opportunities because the Bills haven't had success with anyone else.

I also like Michael Crabtree against KC and Terrell Owens against Carolina. The only bad play may be Braylon Edwards because you don't know when his drunk-driving ass is going to get into the game against the Dolphins.

Still, overall, I think there will be a few high totals for the Generals that will help him crack 100 and win his first.

Jammers’ Prediction: Generals 111, Slackers 98
