Ten impressive starts in the JLB

The 2024 season is off and running, and it's overreaction time. This is the time of year where owners make the silly mistakes of dropping players too early due to slumps, while others get too hyped over players who will never keep it up. But as we have seen with the Spencer Striders of the past, some will keep it up so there is reason for everyone to get excited about hot starts and hope they have the "next big thing." That's why I thought I'd take a look at some of the great starts in the JLB, which includes several players who may fall off this list in the next week. This is a list that is a mix of superstars and surprise stars and as we see with the first name on the list, players who have a lot of pressure in the JLB to live up to where they were drafted. 10 . A new system, but is it better? Slammer S-Scale projections time!

I am really excited for 2024. The Slammer S-Scale, often-mocked, but many times correct, has an extreme makeover for this season. The old system of ranking was fine, but it always had one major flaw in it in the past. And that flaw was never hidden; I always was forward with it saying that oftentimes, there were categories where the separation between first and fourth was (let's go with homers for example) only a few homers, so it was not fair to give the first place team 6 points and the fourth place team 3 points in the system. Especially when fourth place would have a significant lead on fifth and sixth. So that led to inconsistencies in the projected standings. With that in mind, I decided to break out the calculator and do some math to figure out a new formula to credit a third-place team with more points if they were closer to the lead. Dude, Gamblers off to hot start

The longest "week" in the JLB season is finally over, and for me and Breakfast, good riddance. Unfortunately for both of us, we swap opponents for Week 2. The Dude and the Gamblers. Go figure, those two would have the best Week 1 wins. (JUST MORE EVIDENCE! BAN THE DUDE!) The Dude had the best overall week, toppling the four-time World Series Champion by a 16-4-4 score. Ohtani's friendly scoring triple late Sunday helped knot up triples at 3 (should have been a double and an error). Several categories were close in this one, so the score isn't completely indicative of Breakfast's opening week; however, with a .219 batting average, it was hard to match the offensive output of the Dude. Will Smith (.415, 17 hits, 8 RBIs, 3 walks), Jose Altuve (.375, 15 hits, 3 HRs, 4 walks, 8 runs scored) and Shohei Ohtani (.320, 16 hits, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs, 10 runs) led the way, along with Christian Walker, who hit 3 HRs and drove in 10 runs.
