Week 7 Recap

Just another case of the North rocking and the South sobbing.

The entire Nittany North won this weekend, but the Nittany South struggled and lost as a collective trio.

Even with the losses, the Organ Thieves and News Team both share the Nittany South — and conference lead — with a 5-2 record.

The whole Nittany North is knotted at 4-3 which should make for an excellent playoff race in the Nittany Conference. Only three spots available and five teams duking it out right now.

In the Liberty Conference, the race includes just four teams for three spots right now.

The Jammers moved to 5-2 to take a two-game lead in the Patriot Division, while Real Houserville climbed out of his 0-2 hole, winning four of his last five matchups.

T-Money 152.4, Organ Thieves 111.1
T-Money was well on his way to victory when Monday night came around. If only the Cowboys would have benched Tony Romo like T-Money could have done.

Romo was sacked in the first half, broke is collar bone and will miss the rest of the season.

That leaves T-Money with zero QBs. Now he's scrambling to find a replacement.

Nevertheless, if he gets the performance that Kenny Britt put up on Sunday every week, he won't have to worry about who's starting. Hell, he could start Colt McCoy.

Britt went nuts, coming 0.2 points away from setting a new JFL record for points by a wideout. Terrell Owens holds the record with 45 points.

So how the hell did he score three touchdowns and go for more than 200 yards?

It's a great question. He didn't switch numbers. He wore 18 the whole game, including the first quarter and half that he spent on the bench as result of his punishment for an off-the-field incident. After the first 100 yards and a TD, you think you would start to zero in on him. Nope. For some reason, Ellis Hobbs, not the $56M corner Asante Samuel wasn't covering him. Not sure why this was the case, but I have a feeling teams will use their top corners on Mr. Britt from now on.

The Thieves had great weeks from the top part of his lineup — QB and three RBs — who scored 72 combined points. The rest made up the 39 points that got him to 111, nowhere near enough to beat the Money Man.

Team Boyer 132.3, World of Noise 72.7
I can't wait to play World of Noise. It will be fun.

Boyer knows this. So does the rest of the league.

Noise hasn't had much luck with injuries and his three Dolphins. Chad Henne was the highest scorer with 18.5 points and David Akers was second with 15. And you know it's not good when David Akers is one of your three double-digit scorers.

On the other side, Boyer didn't even use a kicker. Neil Rackers was on the BYE and instead of making a move, he rolled the dice against the low-scoring Noise.

Boyer had double-digit performances across the board, not counting Ryan Matthews, including 20-point performances from Michael Turner and Hines Ward.

But it was the performance of a bench player that has to have Boyer thinking about next week.

Eli Manning scored 35.9 fantasy points, outscoring Tom Brady once again. He has the Giants offense moving and Boyer might have to make the switch at QB.

One thing is for sure, he's going to have to make the switch at RB. Matthews isn't cutting it. Boyer is hoping Joseph Addai comes back soon or that Cadillac Williams keeps it going.

Toasters 151.7, Fear and Loathing 110.4
Fear and Loathing will only have to put up with Jay Cutler for one more week. Then it's back to Michael Vick.

Which is good because Cutler is awful. Remember when people were wondering why the Broncos got rid of their "gun slinger?" It didn't make sense then. Now, we must think that maybe they saw something we didn't at that point. Now it is clear. Cutler is a bum. And his 14 points last week were a small reason why Fear lost last week.

The biggest reason was an unlikely quarterback performance by Carson Palmer. The Bengals didn't win and there are many who are starting to think Carson Palmer's time is up, but his 41.5 points would suggest otherwise. For the first time all season, he didn't turn the ball over, but unfortunately for him, his defense couldn't stop the Falcons.

It wasn't the only big performance the Toasters had, and surprisingly it wasn't Chris Johnson or Matt Forte picking up the other big day. It was rookie Dez Bryant who scored three TDs, two receiving and another on a return. It was a nice pick-me-up with Calvin Johnson on the bench.

Just as Palmer made up for Schaub's absence.

This time Schaub's absence was because of the BYE. Other weeks, it has been because of his poor play. If Palmer keeps this up, the Toasters will have no choice but to bench his franchise QB.

... Franchise quarterback... A phrase that Fear wishes he could say about someone on his team.

Jawz 144.9, News Team 103.6
I'd like to brag about predicting this, but I've predicted several Jawz wins and he only has two.

Nonetheless, he knew he had to win this week and he finally got the performances he wanted from his wideouts Chad Ochocinco and Marques Colston. Both had TD catches and nearly hit 20 points.

But it was Ben Roethlisberger with another two TDs and 27.1 fantasy points who led Jawz to victory. Big Ben did have three fumbles, which is odd because he generally only drops the ball off the field. (OH Snap!)

Still, the fumbles didn't hurt the point total, and with back-to-back great performances, Big Ben should be the starter for the rest of the year, and that's with Mark Sanchez on the bench. All of a sudden, Jawz has gone from one of the worst quarterbacked teams in JFL history to a quality tandem.

News Team, the loser of this matchup, doesn't need a backup quarterback with Aaron Rodgers, but he could use a running back. Knowshon Moreno had a good day on a day when the Broncos dumped on their fans by going down 38-0 before losing 59-14 to the Raiders. I saw this score on my iPhone midway through the second and had to go find a computer to make sure that the Raiders were truly up 38-0. How does this happen?

What an awful team.

The News Team wideouts didn't do much. Miles Austin was nothing with 4.4 points and Mike Thomas, a week after his 10.4 points on Monday night made the difference in a win, scored a big zero.

(Fear, I'm sorry. I know you wish that could have been the case last week.)

Houserville 118.8, Slackers 105.6
Houserville survived the week without Peyton Manning, but barely.

The Slackers benched Hakeem Nicks because he was questionable Sunday, forcing him to go with Deion Branch. That move cost him the points needed to beat Houserville.

But that's me acting like Captain Hindsight. (South Park is hilarious.)

For Houserville, it was a career day for Darren McFadden who scored four touchdowns and a bad day for Rashard Mendenhall who has just 121 yards and a touchdowns in the two games since Big Ben has been back. Hate to say I told you so, but... I told you. The pass-happy Steelers have returned. In a game they led for most of it, Mendenhall got just 15 carries, his lowest total of the season.

WIth McFadden not having a chance in hell putting up 46 points a week, it could be a tough go at RB for the rest of the way now.

Still, Peyton Manning will be more than enough to keep the Ville going.

Jammers 128.6, Generals 112
Matt Ryan and Roddy White are becoming a sexy duo. Another 71 points between the two has helped the Jammers stay in front of the Patriot Division by two games, the largest lead in the JFL.

White went for 201 and two touchdowns during a heavy BYE week for the Jammers. The next one comes in Week 8 when Ryan and White are gone.

So are Ray Rice, who reverted back to mediocre in Week 7 with 7.5 points, and Peyton Hillis, who continues to outperform most RBs who were kept by owners this season. He has hit double-digits in every game this season and scored at least one touchdown in six of seven games. Only the Steelers held him out of the end zone.

On the flip side, Larry Fitzgerald had another dud week.

The Generals know the feeling. DeAngelo Williams had another bust of a week with 5.1 points, but he continues to get better and better weeks from Joe Flacco, Terrell Owens and Percy Harvin.

Which gives him hope for the weeks ahead; however, at 2-5, he may be in the wrong conference to make late run. Then again, a few consecutive wins will go a long way.
