I'm going to do this a little differently since I did not have the chance to do a full recap. I'll have previews mixed with a flavor of recap just so I can keep Dawson happy.
Championship season is still going on in the Patriot League. Only two more weeks. I have to miss another NFL Sunday this week due to a championship on Sunday, but fortunately, the Eagles play on Monday night.
I also have 30 percent of my fantasy team playing Thursday night as I type this, so I guess I'm lucking out.
Here's the Week 9/10 Recap/Preview.
Jimmy Jammers (6-3) at Real Houserville (5-4)
If this doesn't shout matchup of the week, I don't know what else does.
OK, so the Organ Thieves vs. the defending champion Toasters looks good, too, but I don't see Eric and Ryan bickering on a weekly basis on the message boards. If they do bicker off the InterWeb, then, forgive me for shunning such a rivalry.
Nonetheless, Dawson is the mongoose to my snake or the snake to my mongoose.
He is the Hasselhoff to my Baywatch and the dog feces smashed on the bottom of my running shoes.
That's right. He's a pain in the ass. To make matters worse, this Lifetime-watching SOB got more facetime on my wedding reception video than me.
But he's my good friend, and I look forward to kicking his ass this week.
And it all comes down to what happens Thursday night.
The Jammers have Matt Ryan, Ray Rice and Roddy White all playing.
White is questionable, so he could be replaced if he is listed as inactive.
Still, with the big boys going on a short week, the Jammers needs to wake up Friday with a decent 60-70 points to feel comfortable.
That or pray for Cincinnati to learn how to defend Peyton Manning. It's another week of the Manning-Garcon-Tamme show for Dawson. It was OK last week, but as we all know, when you put all your eggs in one basket and some one drops it, you're effed. I believe that's the saying.
Dawson also has some good plays in Rashard Mendenhall, who has to be thinking about Peyton Hillis' big week against the Pats last week.
Speaking of the Waiver Man of the Year, Hillis will be issued a test this week when the Browns host the Jets. All he needs is one goal-line carry to make himself useful. Then again, as he showed last week, he can break the long run, too. (Damn Denver must feel like crap knowing they traded him for Brady Quinn. ... And boy Brady Quinn must feel like crap knowing that he's the dud in such a trade.)
The Jammers is coming off of a loss to the JFL's top team, the Organ Thieves, and it wasn't for a lack of effort. The Jammers had enough points to top more than half the JFL, but his top performances from Peyton Hillis and Ray Rice were overshadowed by the predicted success of Phillip Rivers and Adrian Peterson. (I wish my quarterback would play the Texans once.)
Dawson's quarterback is lucky because he gets to play the Texans twice. But both of those outings have come and gone. He's going to have to win without a cupcake passing matchup like that from here on out.
Jammers' Heavily Biased Prediction: Jammers 134, Ville 0 ... Ok... just kidding. Clearly he has two points for being the home team. Jammers 128, Ville 119
Chinese Organ Thieves (7-2) at Dottsville Toasters (5-4)
It was a tough week for the Toasters on the scoreboard, but a Rashard Mendenhall benching to preserve the 106-105.6 win for Houserville skewed the outcome.
Still, a loss is a loss and for the Toasters it's the same amount of losses he had all of last year. But even with that, he still is in the same spot as last year, first place. Actually, he's tied with both Boyer and T-Money. At 5-4, these three can't decide who wants to take control of the division.
The other thing with that is, with the Organ Thieves rolling at the top of the Nittany Conference and the News Team owning the Wild Card spot, the three teams are battling for the "final" playoff spot if everything plays out as is.
A win by the Toasters would make everything more interesting as he would bring the Thieves back to the pack and possibly create a big cluster-eff for first and second in the conference.
To do that, though, he has to outscore the highest-scoring team in the JFL.
The Toasters get Chris Johnson back off the BYE and I would imagine that Vernon Davis gets back into the lineup, too, because anyone is better than Johnny Knox.
The Toasters also hit a break with Phillip Rivers being on the BYE. Also, all three of the Thieves RBs are tangled in divisional matchups which can also hamper production. Just ask Thomas Jones who had just 32 yards last week against the Raiders. He'll go against the Broncos this week, and Adrian Peterson has the Bears. The Thieves also could win on Monday night if it somehow is close because LeSean McCoy will be in Washington along with Jeremy Maclin.
Still, as is the case often for the Toasters, he needs to pick the right QB. Will Matt Schaub have a good week or should he go with Carson Palmer at Indy? Both are questionable and maybe it's time to start whispering the name Sam Bradford. ... Imagine that.
Too many question marks for the Toasters, though.
That's why it's fairly simple to predict another win for the Thieves and another loss for the Toasters, which I guess means that T-Money and Boyer will also lose in the "Anything-You-Can-Do-I-Will-Do-Too" Division.
Jammers' Prediction: Thieves 143, Toasters 114
Team Boyer (5-4) at Channel 4 News Team (6-3)
Chant it with me:
"Start Eli! Bench Brady!"
Yes, it's what you should do. The number don't lie and the matchups scream for this.
Brady is going against the Steelers and Manning is playing the Cowboys, a team that gave up in Week 3.
This may not be the path to victory just because the News Team is so good, but it will create the best chance to beat him on a week where he does not have Aaron Rodgers, the man who scored 36.1 points last week to lead him to a big win over the poor Sunday Slackers, who again were just outscored despite a good offensive week.
The News Team got a lift from DeSean Jackson, who returned from La-La Land to record 20 points. For the News Team, it was nice to see Jackson on the field again. And it was even better to see him there with Michael Vick. Adds at least 10 points to Jackson's total.
The News Team has also been happy with Arian Foster, who busted loose for another 32 fantasy points last week. It's the third time this year he's score more than 30 and its the fourth straight week that he's had 20 or more points. It's why he's the No. 1 back in fantasy. Nice draft pick, Mister Burgundy.
I can't say the same for Knowshon Moreno. I guess you win some and you lose some. Unless you the 2010 World of Noise. Then you just lose. (Oh, snap.)
Boyer will lose again this week, too. The numbers and matchups weigh too heavily in favor of he News Team.
Jammers' Prediction: News Team 124, Boyer 99
Fear and Loathing (4-5) at Sunday Slackers (3-6)
Fear went to the Jon Kitna well again last week. And he fell in.
Just 73 points and he re-learned his lesson that when you have Michael Vick, you start him.
He's also starting Mr. Randy Moss again after he got an unexpected BYE week last week. Going from having a chance to play 17 games back to 16, Moss is now a Titan and who knows what the hell he'll do. He's kind of like Mario Manningham. One catch one week, none the next.
That's why I like Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks in this matchup because they will catch more than Manningham, and the rest of the Slackers WRs will be more productive, starting with Tony Gonzalez on Thursday night.
But this matchup will come down to Monday night.
That's when Vick plays, and he's playing the Redskins. He'll be sure to get out of bounds and slide before taking a hit like he did the last time he played them.
He knows a big contract is on the line and the only way he is getting it is if he remains the starter and leads the Eagles to the playoffs.
Fear and Loathing also is looking for a franchise fantasy quarterback and Vick has a chance to win him over.
Jay Cutler hasn't wooed him yet and Jon Kitna will never do such a thing.
Ryan Fitzpatrick gets the nod for the Slackers in what has turned into very nice fantasy campaign for the Harvard grad. He'll put up some more points this weekend against Detroit.
This matchup will be a lot closer than the ESPN projections have it and I do believe that Jamaal Charles will have a big day Sunday against the Broncos and set up a Monday Night Comeback — yes another one for Fear.
Jammers Prediction: Fear 121, Slackers 119
T-Money (5-4) at Jawz Attack (2-7)
Big Ben is out. Mark Sanchez is back in.
At this point, the Attack will try anything.
T-Money is hurting too. Tony Romo and Kenny Britt are both out, and the BYE week hits for backup QB Jason Campbell, TE Antonio Gates (who was out with an injury last week) and the Raiders defense.
But hey, T-Money appears to be absent. This is the second week in a row that he's got players on the BYE in his lineup, so this could be a good week for the Attack.
It could be a good week no matter what with Lee Evans and Brandon Lloyd looking at good matchups, along with Maurice Jones-Drew. I'm keeping this one simple because of that.
Jammers' Prediction: Jawz 121, T-Money 70
Graybill's Generals (4-5) at World of Noise (2-7)
Hey, a win. The Noise did it. They won a matchup.
OK, so maybe it was one of those crap wins where you score 83 points and get away with it, but maybe that's what he needed.
Kind of like maybe a new quarterback is what the Dolphins need.
That's what Miami decided this week, finally benching that Michigan bum Chad Henne and bringing back fan-favorite Chad Pennington. Good-bye passing game, hello rushing attack.
This works out to be a great move for the Noise in many ways. Now he gets to bench Henne himself and insert a much better fantasy option in David Garrard. It also makes his two running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams a more sexy duo because they will certainly get more carries.
Pennington will be able to carry out the play-action fake much better which will in turn open up some running lanes. Look for one if not both of the Noise backs to score this week.
By the time the Steelers defense tacks on its fantasy points Sunday night, the Noise should have win No. 3 wrapped up nicely because Garrard is going up against the Texans. QBs are getting an average of 31 fantasy points against the Texans.
Garrard will get that and more.
Make some Noise. A winning streak is coming.
Jammers' Prediction: Noise 122, Generals 110
