Manny Being Waived

It’s the sixth day of baseball and definitely not a time to panic.

Or is it?

Last in the League in hitting with a .198 average at 9:38 p.m. Tuesday night, it apparently was time for the Slammers to make a change.

In a surprise move, the Slammers waived Manny Ramirez. Here’s a statement from the owner:

“It was a risky move to add Manny Ramirez at the beginning of the season, but we thought it was worth a try. A new place without any pressure seemed to be the right fit for Manny, but he has struggled off the bat and we feel that his negative attitude has rubbed off on the rest of the team.”

Ramirez was batting 1-for-12 with four strikeouts prior to his release at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday night.

And the Slammers immediately began hitting after his release. Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Michael Young, Billy Butler and Andrew McCutchen pounded out a combined five hits to get the Slammers back on the right side of the Mendoza line. The Slammers were 3-for-31 with Manny, and 5-for-6 without him.

Things are looking up.
