For some of us, it was a great first series, whether your players played a three-game or four-games series.
Here’s a list of the top players in the first three/four games:
Hits
Vandelay’s Starlin Castro pounded out eight hits in 13 at-bats. Nice for a sophomore. Two triples, too. Lucky Vandelay.
Runs
Several guys have scored five runs, but the Slammers and Gamblers own two of them. Unfortunately for the Slam, he didn’t start Brendan Boesch on his four-run game. The Gamblers’ Jose Bautista has five runs scored, to go with his two home runs — and we though that he was going to bust in 2011.
Singles
Former Phillie Bobby Abreu and current Phillie Jimmy Rollins have six. Both are on Team Suck.
Doubles
Carlos Quentin is one of many to have three doubles, but he’s one of the most surprising. He’s struggled so much and he’s be a huge part of the Outs’ offense.
Triples
Starlin. Been there. Talked about it.
Homers
Four guys homered in their first three games. Nelson Cruz made it 4-for-4 Monday night, so the Slammers are happy to have the home run leader, for now.
RBIs
Mark Teixeira has seven RBIs along with Quentin in the first series. A very good start for two guys who traditionally start slow.
Pitching
Felix Hernandez and Jaime Garcia had the top performances of the first series. Both tossed complete games, with Garcia having the best outing — a complete-game shutout of the Padres with nine strikeouts.
Matt Garza (12) and Cliff Lee (11) struck out the most and despite all his troubles, Jonathan Broxton had the most saves with three.
