Dream no more.
I'm really getting tired of the Giants fan in my office calling the Eagles the "Dream Team."
I guess I can't blame him though.
If a backup QB for the Giants said something as stupid as that, I'd make the same, jest-filled comments about them.
Needless to say, I'm very upset about this whole situation. I'm upset that Vince Young ever showed up in Philly to give them the nickname that may forever haunt them.
I'm very upset that the decision to let the linebacker corps was neglected and left to waste. That decision has now cost the Eagles three games, and who knows how many more from here on out. And that will be the reason why the Vince Young verbiage will haunt them forever.
It's a shame. A team with so much promise has been so horribly put together. At 1-3, the season isn't over yet, but it's hard to believe that this team will turn it around.
It's not out of the question, because there have been worse performances that have led to Super Bowl runs. Even the Giants in 2007, started 0-2 with a 45-35 loss to Dallas and a 35-13 loss to Green Bay.
And the Eagles had a horrible start to 2003, staring 0-2 and eventually 2-3 before rolling off nine straight wins.
So, it's not over for the Eagles, as history would state. But if history doesn't repeat itself, it will be a waste of a year. It will be like the 2011 Red Sox (too soon?). Boston was deemed as the "Best Team Ever Assembled." And the season started bad and ended worse for the Red Sox. A "Dream Team" in their own way, their season was a failure.
The Eagles have 12 weeks to prevent that from happening.
In fantasy, the Attack, Noise and T-Money are in similar situations this week after falling to 1-3, and the Organ Thieves are in even worse shape at 0-4.
I'm not saying that any of them had "Dream Team" monikers attached to their fantasy teams.
Channel 4 News Team 179.4, Dottsville Toasters 145
News Team did it again.
For the second time in 2011, News Team gave watched the opposition score at least 145 points and he shrugged it off, this time with a JFL record 179.4 points.
Arian Foster returned to his 2010 form, scoring 25.2 fantasy points on 155 rushing yards and a TD — and believe it or not, that was a low-light for the News Team.
Aaron Freaking Rodgers threw for 408 yards, four touchdowns and rushed for two more to score 61.6 points, which is a JFL record for QBs not named Michael Vick (Vick scored 64.5 points in that big Redskins win last season).
What a day. I said on the Gamecast wall, it would have been hilarious if News Team was playing World of Noise this week. He could have beat Noise with Rodgers alone. The final scored would have been 61.6-54.1.
News Team also got 31.8 points from Beanie Wells — which has to make the Slackers a bit upset since Wells didn't do anything like that last season.
Vincent Jackson and Tony Gonzales both added double-digit outings for the News Team, but that was it. The Toasters were actually more consistent across the board with seven double-digit scorers, while News Team only had five. But when three combine for about 120, you don't care about that.
It goes down as a big win for the News Team and a tough loss for the Toasters. Don't count the Toasters out. His team can score and could easily be 3-1 right now.
Jimmy Jammers 137.5, World of Noise 54.1
We've never had bye weeks in the JFL, but this was as close as it gets to having one.
The Jammers got double-digits from seven different players and really only needed that kind of effort from five of them.
At one point, this matchup was a bit scary for the Jammers as the Detroit Lions defense had 3.5 points and his benched Texans had 28.5. Ten minutes later — and two horrible Tony Romo INTs later — the Lions had 19.5 fantasy points. It was quite the swing. They actually finished with 21 points, just short of Matt Stafford's team-high 22.9 points — who was like the Lions defense, sitting in single digits until the Lions began their comeback.
Well, that's pretty much it for this one. I don't want to shovel any more dirt over Noise.
Sunday Slackers 129.6, Chinese Organ Thieves 116.6
I guess the Slackers are looking for some kind of apology. Or maybe some kind of praise for winning his third game of the season.
Maybe next week.
I will give him mad props for starting Matt Forte after his horrible Week 3 performance. The Bears said they were going to run the ball this week after there was a lot of criticism for not running it in Week 3.
Well, they took it to a whole new level. The Bears only threw 17 times and ran 31 times. Forte got 25 of those carries and went for 205 yards and a TD.
It's nearly the same outcome after the Bears "re-committed" to the run in 2010.
Now, the Slackers just hope that they stick with that game plan.
Drew Brees and Ray Rice had big days again, carrying this team to victory because the rest of the team was very pedestrian — again. Right now, for the Slackers, it's live or die with Brees, Rice and Forte.
On the other side, I'm left scratching my head. Every single player in the starting lineup, aside of maybe Reggie Wayne because of the QB situation, was an coveted player in most fantasy drafts.
I find it hard to believe that this team is 0-4. Yes, the News Team nipped them with one of his mind-boggling point totals, but still, 0-4? Really. This cannot continue. Can a Thieve get a Noise on the schedule, please.
Real Houserville 123.3, T-Money 117.8
One key to fantasy football — or any fantasy sport for that matter — is to never overreact.
If someone on your bench or a player you just acquired on the waiver wire had a huge week, you shouldn't throw that player into the starting lineup right away — unless it all you got.
Case and point, Torrey Smith. Three catches for 133 yards and three TDs last week, acquired on waiver wire, scores 0.3 points for T-Money this week.
Stick with your guns. Brandon Jacobs has been a constant scorer, more so than Torrey Smith. His eight points this week would have done the trick.
If Torrey Smith goes for 130 and three TDs on the bench again this week, then, you start thinking about it.
Just look at Houserville. Cam Newton goes for 40-some points in Week 1, but he leave him on the bench. He would have been stupid to react and start him in Week 2. Newton puts up similar numbers in Week 2, and Houserville now has a reason to start him.
Another 39 points for the fantasy star, who could be the draft pick of the year in the JFL. It's just too bad that Houserville over-reacted after Week 1 and shipped off the potential WR of the Year in Wes Welker.
Fear and Loathing 153.5, Jawz Attack 131.7
Well, at least Fear and Loathing is winning.
Was anyone else shocked to see Michael Vick score 40 fantasy points? Did he get an extra 20 points for finishing the game?
Wait, he threw for 416 yards? And he ran for 74 yards? How the hell did they lose this game?
Fear doesn't care. As a Steelers fan, he's got his own issues with his favorite NFL team.
Still, his fantasy team may have gotten back on track. This was a big win, keeping him close to the now-division-leading Real Houserville.
For Jawz, it's just another unfortunate loss. With 131.7 points, what can you do? We seem to be saying this a lot. QBs need to simmer down here. These 40-point weeks are getting ridiculous.
Jawz doesn't need to panic yet. At 1-3, with his squad, he's bound to even out here and get going and battle the Slackers and Fear for the Wild Card — basing this on the current division leaders being the Jammers and Houserville.
The Slackers would have something to say about that, but who's listening to him.
Team Boyer 131.6, Graybill's Generals 97.2
Joe Flacco was a bust Sunday night, and when you're QB scores just 4.7 points in a week where you're matching up against Tom Brady, you're in trouble.
Brady bounced back nicely from his four-interception performance in Week 3, scoring 22.9 points, one of three players to reach 20 points for Boyer. Michael Turner and LeGarrette Blunt — as predicted by yours truly — ran wild against their opponents.
With Dez Bryant getting healthy and looking like Calvin Johnson in the red zone, scoring two TDs, Boyer's squad is shaping into a viable playoff contender. Barring injury, this should be a team that competes for a trip to the Super Bowl.
Obviously, Brady makes you a competitor, but Michael Turner and LeGarrette Blunt are turning into one of the better duos in the League, and they will certainly be a pair that wins Boyer several more matchups this season.
The main reason is because the two backs are among the few backs who see the majority of the workload. There are so many timeshares right now that there are only two kinds of backs you want — the big bruisers who can pound the rock like Turner and Blunt, and the multiple threat backs, like a Darren Sproles who gets a few carries, a few receptions and returns punts.
Because Boyer has two of the bruisers, I'm making him the frontrunner to score 150 points in the Nittany Conference Championship game against the News Team.
Unfortunately, News Team will score like 180, so it won't matter.
Dream no more.
