FB: Week 9 Recap: Jammers, Slackers on verge of playoff berths

After nine weeks, all six playoffs spots are still up for grabs and all four divisions are not settled.

The only thing we know for sure is that World of Noise, possibly the worst team in JFL history, is not going to the playoffs. At 1-8, the Noise was eliminated with his loss last week.

Heading into Week 10, only two teams can clinch a playoff spot. The Jammers can do it with a win and a Houserville loss. The Slackers can do the same and with him playing Houserville, he controls his own destiny. With a win, The Slackers would be 7-3 and at worst could finish 7-6. With that loss, Houserville would be 4-6 and at best could finish 7-6 and would lose the tie breaker with the Slackers. The Jammers doesn't own the tiebreaker against Houserville, so he'll have to move to 8 wins to clinch a spot. If the Jammers and Slackers both win, Jawz Attack will be eliminated as the Wild Card team would be guaranteed to be either the Jammers or the Slackers. Houserville would still be alive for the playoffs because he can still win the division.

As for the Nittany Conference, nothing is decided and nothing can be decided this weekend. There's 2.5 games separating the No. 1 team and the No. 6 team.

Graybill's Generals 123.7, Jawz Attack 101.2

Both these squads made offseason trades to acquire Eagles.

One got the best of the Dream Team; the other got the most disappointing player on it.

The Generals' acquisition has been harped on over and over by me, so there's no need to talk about it. LeSean McCoy is just ridiculous.

DeSean Jackson used to be ridiculous. This this, he's been a bum. … And he wants a new contract?

He'll be lucky if he remains a member of the Attack next season. At this rate, he's already on the ditch list. Five single-digit fantasy weeks, bottoming out at a season-worst 1 point this past weekend. Only two catches for 16 yards, and then he added that horrible back-breaking fumble for the Eagles.

The Attack also had poor performances from Knowshon Moreno (1.2 points) and Roddy White (8.4 points).

The Generals also got some good points from some unexpected players — Jake Ballard (13.5) and Steve Breaston (12.9). Breaston managed to do it in an awful 31-3 loss, too.

The win was big for the Generals, keeping him in first place of the Nittany Division, as well as first in the Nittany Conference. For Jawz, it ends a good run and puts his season on thin ice — kind of like DeSean Jackson and the Eagles.

Sunday Slackers 111.8, Dottsville Toasters 98

Well, I was right. Ray Rice and Matt Forte weren't going to have 20-point weeks, making this matchup close.

And I said in order for the Toasters to get past the Slackers, he'd have to get a good day out of Chris Johnson, and believe it or not, Johnson reached double-digits. But, it was only 11.8 points. His season-high is 13.1. Still not good enough.

But that's not where the Toasters lost this matchup.

It was lost at QB where Matt Schaub scored even fewer points than Johnson with 10.5. He threw for a season low 119 yards and no TDs. It wasn't that his team wasn't playing well. It's just that they weren't passing. Both Arian Foster and Ben Tate ran for more than 100 yards.

The Texans are one of the few teams that run more than the pass (313 runs to 277 pass). And it's been working for them; not for the Toasters. He can't wait for Andre Johnson to come back.

The Slackers got big performances from his Green Bay receivers — Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley — but who didn't have good performances from Packer wideouts?

Jimmy Jammers 141, Team Boyer 109.7

Who would have thought that starting Michael Turner and LeGarrette Blount would have been the wrong move? Not me. They are the reason that I picked Boyer to win. But the two combined to score 22.4 points.

On his bench, he two RBs that he had to start in Week 8 combined to scored 50.8 points. Can you believe that Willis McGahee was a 30.3-point back this week and Marshawn Lynch was worth 20.5? It boggles the mind. And going forward, they may be more deserving of starts over Roy Williams who has just one double-digit week.

The Jammers had some big point totals on the bench, too, but it was one of those weeks where he couldn't go wrong, other than starting Jon Baldwin over Julio Jones who had the best game of his career with 33 fantasy points.

Larry Fitzgerald also had his first TD since Week 3 and it may be because he had a QB not named Kolb throwing to him — or trying to. John Skelton (out of Fordham, shoutout Patriot League) threw a strike to my old classmate Fitzy. (I didn't call him that in class. In fact, I never called him that to his face.)

And, in what may have been a blessing in disguise, Ryan Mathews was inactive Sunday, forcing the Jammers to start either Reggie Bush, Ben Tate or Daniel Thomas. Bush was the winner, scoring 20.8 points.

Darren Sproles also had another big week, scoring 19.9 points, to take over No. 3 in fantasy back rankings. Not bad for a 10th-round pickup. Yeah, I'm bragging. So what?

T-Money 122.8, World of Noise 84.8

There wasn't much doubt about this one. The World of Noise and the Indianapolis Colts aren't so different this year. Both are in disarray and you can't tell me they're one player away from being good.

And now it's official. The Suck for Luck campaign has begun in the World of Noise.

Then again, I'm not sure drafting the "next great quarterback" is going to help the Noise. I think there's a front office issue here. Maybe he should start studying up for the 2012 JFL Draft now, planning on who he should take. Because whatever strategy was used to assemble this collection of dimwits isn't worth trying again. Time to go back to the drawing board.

I feel like Noise fans are acting like this guy:

Time for the Noise fans to rise up and demand for a change.

As for T-Money, I'm sorry I didn't talk about you much here, but you did just beat World of Noise which is not news. It's just something that seven other teams (three more coming) have done. Welcome to the party.

Channel 4 News Team 167.8, Real Houserville 120.8

I'm surprised Houserville hasn't hit the message boards yet to complain.

Last week, it was "home-field advantage is boo-boo."

This week, I expected: "Having Aaron Rodgers is unfair. Teams shouldn't be allowed to have such a good player.

And can you believe how good he has been? He had 41.2 points this week which was second to his Week 4 performance of 61.6 points. But the most amazing thing is, Rodgers hasn't had a week where he has scored less than 31.8 points, and he's averaging 38.4 points per week.

Despite that, this was just the News Team's fifth win of the season. The key for the News Team has been running back Arian Foster. The News Team is 4-1 when he scores 18.6 points or more.

Foster has done that for three straight games and that's why the News Team has won three straight. Foster went for another 22 points this week with his third straight 100-yard performance.

Rodgers and Foster each got help from Vincent Jackson and the Cardinals defense who both scored 33.5 points.

For Jackson, it was only his third good week, but two of them were so good that it makes him the sixth-ranked receiver in fantasy.

His 15th-ranked waiver pickup wideout, Victor Cruz has been much more consistent as he notched his fifth double-digit outing in his last five games. Clearly, Eli Manning has found a go-to WR in Cruz.

For Houserville, there wasn't much he could do this week. Facing 167.8 points, he needed his boy Cam Newton in the lineup, and he was on the bye.

I'm sure he'll make a return to the lineup this week. His return, plus the fact he won't be playing the News Team, will make things better next week.

Chinese Organ Thieves 83.7, Fear and Loathing 56.7

Well, crap. World of Noise could have beaten both of you.

And that means you two should be ashamed of yourselves, especially you Mr. Fear. I warned you about Kevin Faulk, and you started him anyway. DeMarco Murray, my suggestion, went for 19.4. Faulk, he had zero points and that was a big hit.

In fact, Fear had 124.3 points on the bench. That's like the bench point totals he used to accumulate when he ousted Chad Johnson from the starting lineup.

I can criticize the Faulk move, but I cannot criticize any of the other moves. I can't believe that Tebow scored more than double the points of Michael Vick.

Or that the Chiefs couldn't stop the Dolphins? They gave up 31 points to a Matt Moore led team?

That's more than half the points Fear scored.

And now I just found out JoePa was fired. I'm done writing recaps. Crazy. I definitely though the World of Noise coach would go first.
