BB: Week 3 Recap, Awards

After a month of baseball, there have been some great stories, both positive and negative.

The Gamblers and Slammers are dominating the League in pitching, and Vandelay and Chief Otto are going nuts with the bats.

A big reason for the Vandelay’s great offensive start is Matt Kemp, who had 12 more homers in the month of April than Albert Pujols. Kemp has been unbelievable, batting .417 with 25 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

He’s not the only major leaguer batting over .400 after the month of April. David Ortiz, who has had sluggish starts in recent years, is batting .405 with 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He only has half the homers that Kemp has.

Jerkin’ has been the benefactor of Ortiz’ offense; however, it hasn’t led to much success thus far as he sits 15.5 games behind the Gameday Gambler, who took charge of the division with a 14-5-5 win over Big League Choo last week.

The Otto Parts also picked up a big win (15-4-5) over The Duchess to take a JLB-best 17-game lead in the NL West. With the best record in the JLB, Otto is well on his way to defending his regular-season NL title.

And as harped on before, the NL East continues to beat up on each other. The last-place Slammers won his third matchup of the season to remain just 4.5 games behind the team he beat, the Outs. Vandelay is one game out in the NL East with a matchup against the Slammers this week.

This matchup features the two weekly award winners from last week. It’s a matchup of pitching vs. offense for sure. Both have won their respective awards twice this season.

The JimmyJam Slammers won the Pitching Staff of the Week award for the second time this season. He won 11-of-12 pitching categories to defeat division rival You’re Freaking Out 12-10-2 last week. His pitchers combined to post a 1.52 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 12 quality starts. His pitchers went 10-3 with four saves and four holds. They posted 86 strikeouts and only 23 walks. To top it off, he got complete-game shutouts from Joe Saunders and David Price.

The Vandelay Industries won the Offensive Team of the Week award, batting .296 with 45 singles, 18 doubles, 12 homers, 37 RBIs and 37 runs scored. His bats drew 27 walks, too, helping him win 9-of-12 batting categories. The offense separated itself from Chief Otto Parts, which put up similar numbers, by posting 10 stolen bases and five SACs.
