FB: JFL Week 7 Preview

Week 7 is a big week.

It works out to be a big bye week as several big fantasy players are out.

Four top-15 quarterbacks are out, including the Organ Thieves’ top two starters, but he knew this would happen when he drafted Peyton Manning for the hell of it. Who can blame him?

Four top-15 running backs are out, and a fifth is ranked No. 16, while six WRs in the top 20 are sitting.

That’s a lot of firepower on the bench, and in a week where there are several fantasy matchups between the top teams, it could prove to be a key factor.

We have a battle of rookie quarterbacks as the 5-1 Fear and Loathing host the 4-2 Dottsville Toasters, meanwhile, the top two WRs in the game will square off as a pair of 4-2 teams meet in a big AFC contest. Real Houserville will travel to the Sunday Slackers to see who is going to keep pace with the Fear.

And lastly, we have an inter-conference battle between the Channel 4 News Team (4-2) and the Jawz Attack (3-3).

Dottsville Toasters (4-2) at Fear and Loathing (5-1)
These two teams drafted QBs to change their franchises.

For the Toasters, it worked.

For Fear, it’s a work in progress, as Michael Vick remains a valuable fantasy starter — please note that I emphasized “fantasy” there — and has led him to the best record in the JFL.

His rookie QB Andrew Luck has made one start this season and the Fear cashed in with 37.4 points. This week, Luck makes his second JFL start because Vick is on the bye.

And he’ll go up against the No. 3 QB in fantasy, RG3, who has been a franchise savior for the Toasters. With his 29.1 points per week — average was hurt by a 5.2-point performance in Week 5 when he suffered his concussion — he has fueled several Toaster victories.

I think he’ll do the same thing today.

The Giants are used to facing Michael Vick, but in their last matchup against Vick, the struggled to contain him and he ran for 59 yards. RG3 should get even more yardage and score at least 28 points today. I think that game will be a higher scoring game, perhaps high 20s, mid-30s.

Luck could also have a big day because he’s playing at home against the Browns, the 32nd-ranked passing defense in the NFL.

With big points coming from both QBs, its going to be up to the rest of these lineups to make the difference, and it’s a crap-shoot for the most part. Bye weeks have caused a slew of interesting names into the lineups.

For the Toasters, he tosses in Leonard Hankerson to take the place of Eric Decker, so he is certainly looking for RG3 to throw to his wideout.

Fear has a similar thing going on as he put Donnie Avery into the lineup to replace Roddy White, and he’ll be looking for Luck to hit him for a couple scores.

Both teams start their usual stud wideouts — Fear with Mike Wallace and Toasters with Calvin Johnson — so for me, this matchup will come down to the RBs, and I give the Toasters the edge for one reason — Chris Johnson should run for 100 yards.

If he doesn’t get 100 vs. the Bills, the Toasters should hand him a pink slip and say, “I’m sorry, but the Toasters are going to go in a different direction. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your help in winning a Super Bowl title. And thank you for disappearing. … That last part was sarcasm. Now, get out of here.”

Chris Johnson can avoid that speech with a double-digit day.

His double-digits will help give the Toasters a chance to complete what should be an easy comeback on Monday night when Michael Bush and Calvin Johnson play. I don’t think he’ll be down by much when MNF kicks off.

Jammers’ Prediction: Toasters 121, Fear 110

Real Houserville (4-2) at Sunday Slackers (4-2)
Quick. Hide your kids. Hide your wife. Cause Dawson is swearing at everyone out here.

Houserville went on an Ozzie Guillen-like tirade last week, minus all the beeps.

And if Randall Cobb and William Powell both explode today, Dawson will go berserk, because he can’t handle anyone outside of the top 20 scoring a lot of points.

… Wait. Check it out. Cobb isn’t outside the top 20. Hell, he’s not even outside the top 10.

Cobb is ranked sixth in the JFL with 13.6 points per game, and with another two wideouts in the top 15, including the No. 1 WR in A.J. Green, the Slackers have put together the best trio of WRs in the JFL — and yes, the Jammers is jealous.

So is Jawz, who touted his wideouts in preseason to be the best three.

Houserville has a pair of top-10 wideouts, too, with the No. 2 receiver in Percy Harvin, who trails Green by 3.4 points on the season for the No. 1 spot.

But the Ville is at a disadvantage because his No. 8 WR Demaryius Thomas is on the bye.

That forces the Ville to roll with three RBs, Darren McFadden, C.J. Spiller and Doug Martin, and I think all three will reach double-digits for the Ville.

Yes, that’s big.

But will it be big enough to overcome Drew Brees’ day?

You have to believe that Brees will reach 30 points, so for me, this matchup comes down to the position that has caused a bit of frustration for the Ville — quarterback.

Cam Newton gets the start today after a few weeks on the Ville’s bench, and it has to be because he thinks that Newton is going to get back to his 2011 form against the Cowboys.

To me, this is the difference. If he does and scores 30 points, the Ville wins by five points. If he doesn’t, well, you do the Bill Clinton arithmetic.

I’m going side with Drew Brees in this one, because that’s the safe bet and I like to see Dawson cry.

Jammers’ Prediction: Slackers 130, Houserville 117

Channel 4 News Team (4-2) at Jawz Attack (3-3)
Aaron Rodgers.

Need I say more?

Nope.

Jammers’ Prediction: News Team 145, Attack 120

Chinese Organ Thieves (4-2) at T-Money (2-4)
The Organ Thieves had to patch together a lineup because the Week 7 bye is killer. Both his top QBs are gone, as are his top two wideouts.

So, what does that leave?

To be honest, it leaves a lineup that actually still has a chance to beat T-Money. The Thieves were dealt a blow Thursday night as T-Money’s Frank Gore scored 19.2 points, but he’s still got a good chance, because call me crazy, but I like Matt Hasselbeck to have a productive day against the 31st-ranked defense in the NFL.

And with the Titans leading against the Bills, Fred Jackson, who I think will already miss several touches because of C.J. Spiller, will become less effective for the Money Man.

Meanwhile, I like all three RBs that the Thieves are throwing out, and yes, I know Trent Richardson is questionable, but the last time I made that excuse, he exploded. I’m not making that mistake again. I’m sure Richardson will score today.

I also like the Gronk to score against the Jets. How funny would it be to see Gronk score three TDs against the Jets? Rex Ryan would have a post-game profanity-laced soliloquy that will rival Dawson’s.

The wideouts for the Thieves — Brandon Gibson and Josh Gordon — are a bit shaky, but I still think they’ll score enough points to contribute to a close win here for the Thieves.

Jammers’ Prediction: Thieves 127, T-Money 120

Channel 4 News Team (4-2) at Jawz Attack (3-3)
OK. I was a little brief with the News Team and the Attack earlier and I feel bad. Let me expand.

Aaron Rodgers. And Arian Foster vs. a Ray Lewis-less defense that already was playing awful.

Need I say more?

Nope.

Jammers’ Prediction: Still, News Team 145, Attack 120

Graybill’s Generals (1-5) at Jimmy Jammers (2-4)
These two teams certainly didn’t expect to have a combined three wins at this point.

And they’ll have to wait until late Monday night to find out who gets win No. 4. For the Jammers, a win would get him to 3-4 and back into the race.

For the Generals, a win would be his second of the season and give him a little hope heading into Week 8, but with five losses, he’s in a situation where almost every week is a must-win.

The Giants-Redskins game will weigh heavily in this game. The Generals is unloading a trio of Giants, Eli Manning, Andre Brown and Victor Cruz, while the jammers will send out Alfred Morris.

I already said I thought this game will be a high-scoring affair, which bodes well for the Generals, but if the NFC East rivalry matchup somehow falls into a 17-14 kind of battle, the Generals could be in trouble.

With Matthew Stafford or Jay Cutler going on Monday night — game-time decision — the Jammers will in all likelihood be in a comeback roll, especially considering the fact that he got just 3.9 points out of Michael Crabtree. His trade for Kenny Britt happened a few days late. Crabtree, who was seeing time because Ryan Mathews and Julio Jones are on the bye.

The Jammers also are hit with the bye at tight end, where the No. 1 player at that position Tony Gonzalez takes a seat on the bench. Fortunately, the Jammers has Kyle Rudolph, who is ranked No. 3.

But Rudolph could leave if the trade between the News Team and Jammers is upheld (currently pending Asst. Commish approval).

If it is, the Jammers will insert Jared Cook, who is ranked No. 10, while Kenny Britt will get a shot at wideout over Devery Henderson.

No matter who makes it into the lineup, it’s going to be close, and with the Lions defense also going for the Generals on Monday night, it could be a bit of a back-and-forth battle on Monday night and it may come down to the final minutes, especially if Stafford — Mr. Fourth Quarter — gets the start.

Jammers’ Prediction: Jammers 110, Generals 106

World of Noise (2-4) at Team Boyer (1-5)
The Spacklers have an addition in the front office. … Time for another name change. Everyone, I introduce, the Spacklers and Company.

Congrats to Mr. Boyer for his new assistant GM Russel Henry Boyer, his newborn son, who I’m sure came into this world saying, “One and five? What the hell are we doing, Dad?”

I like his attitude. This kid wants to win.

And I think the new attitude is going to be the difference. I love Tom Brady to absolutely destroy the Jets today. There’s nothing Brady loves better than beating Rex Ryan and the Jets. I don’t know this personally, but you can just tell. You can just feel it that Brady walks into a Jets game with two things in mind:

(1) Win.
(2) Beat the living you know what out of them.

And that will help Boyer do the same to the Noise who I’m guessing will score about 80 points this week. He’s projected to get more than 100, but it’s the Noise.

Matt Forte will get big yards vs. the Lions, Dez Bryant will have another double-digit week and I like Jermaine Gresham to score this week.

Jammers’ Prediction: Spacklers and Co., 147, World of Noise 81.3
