With four weeks left, we enter Week 10 with a pair of monumental matchups that will have playoff implications.
In the NFC, the Chinese Organ Thieves (6-3) and Dottsville Toasters (5-4) meet up in a game that has an impact on Team Boyer no matter who wins — of course, I’m assuming that the impact would be felt if Team Boyer can knock off the high-flying Channel 4 News Team.
In the AFC, it’s two teams fighting for the top seed in the conference. The loser could potentially face a divisional battle. Fear and Loathing is 6-3, tied with Houserville, so of course a loss would hurt his divisional standings, too.
For the Slackers (7-2), a loss doesn’t push him to second place in the division, but if the Jawz Attack can beat T-Money and move to 5-5, he’ll be two games back with three to play, including a head-to-head matchup.
Houserville (6-3) host the Jammers (3-6), who will try to stave off elimination for one more week. Beating Houserville will be key because getting the head-to-head against him will be pivotal if the Jammers plans on finishing 7-6 and getting the wild card (not happening).
And in the final matchup, it’s the Graybill Generals vs. World of Noise. Both could be eliminated by the end of the day no matter who wins. The Generals will surely be done with a loss and an Organ Thieves win.
There are a lot of scenarios right now, so I’ll hold off until the Tuesday/Wednesday recap to post playoff scenarios.
The one I will mention is the division title that is on the line today.
The Slackers will clinch a playoff spot and his second straight AFC East Division title with a win and a Jaw Attack loss. With 8 wins, the Jammers can’t match that.
And with 8 wins, the only way the Attack could win the division is to win out and get 8 wins, and at the same time have the Slackers lose to the Jammers so that in a head-to-head tie-breaker with the Slackers, it would go to division record at which point the Attack would be 3-1 and the Slackers would be 2-2.
If both are tied in the overall and divisional standings, it would come down to conference record, and in that scenario with the Slackers winning this week and the Attack winning out, the tie-breaker would go to the Slackers with a 5-1 conference record. It’s why the Attack need a Fear win today… Well, maybe not. He may be battling Fear for the wild card, which is more realistic for the Attack (Jammers, too).
Fear and Loathing (6-3) at Sunday Slackers (7-2)
As the clock ticks down on the 2012 regular season, the Slackers have to be happy where they sit. A three-game lead in the AFC East and a one-game lead in the AFC.
Today, he gets the chance to increase both those leads.
And it’s hard to say he won’t do it.
I personally think Drew Brees will lead the Saints to a win over the undefeated Falcons, and the 35-plus points he’ll get from Brees will be nothing compared to what his running backs will put up.
Ray Rice, who many have used as an example when trying explain how Doug Martin plays, is going up against that Raiders defense that let Martin run for 251 yards.
You’ll see Rice get 170-plus yards from scrimmage today and scored 30 fantasy points for the Slackers.
Reggie Bush also has a tasty matchup against the Titans defense. Expecting at least 18 points is a minimum.
Those three will be enough to take care of Fear who will not get the same all-around performance he got last season. Willis McGahee could be limited and I can’t trust Joique Bell for a second straight week. Luck is already in the book for 22.1 points, which is possibly half of what Brees will score.
Jammers’ Prediction: Slackers 155, Fear 113
Chinese Organ Thieves (6-3) at Dottsville Toasters (5-4)
This could be a first-round playoff preview. Right now, it’s set to be the Week 14 matchup with the News Team getting the bye week.
But both could make a step toward changing that with a win today and a News Team loss.
The Thieves are in the best position, trailing the News Team by one game. The only AFC game that the Thieves lost was to the News Team, so feasibly, in a tie-breaker situation, it could come down to AFC record and that’s why today’s matchup against the Toasters is huge.
And in a big situation, the Toasters have to deal with a Week 10 bye from RG3, which forces his to start Alex Smith, who is coming off a 32-point performance. He’s been inconsistent fantasy-wise, but his matchup against the Rams should give him the chance to score some points.
The Thieves also have a great matchup at QB, it just depends on which Philip Rivers shows up this week. … But it is such a good matchup that the Thieves benched Peyton Manning for it.
He also had to sit down Trent Richardson, but it wasn’t a strategically inspired move. The Browns are on the bye, so that means it’s up to Adrian Peterson and Danny Woodhead. Against the Bills, the Pats should score 50 points, so there could be a chance that Woodhead gets some points today.
Whatever the point total, I think it will be just enough to beat the Toasters.
Dottsville has some serious issues at running back today with both Chris Johnson and Michael Bush going up against teams that do not give up 100-yard rushing games.
So it’s going to have to be big TD games for Johnson and Bush to get to double-digits and give the Toasters a chance.
Jammers’ Prediction: Thieves 128, Toasters 117
Team Boyer (3-6) at Channel 4 News Team (7-2)
Congratulations Boyer.
You won.
Not this match, not yet this week.
But you won in the preseason when the commish sat down and at random picked when which week from the prior year would be played this year.
In July, when the schedule was made, your matchup with the News Team landed on Week 10, which just happens to be the Packers bye week.
So, congrats. You got it. You get the chance to play the News Team without Aaron Rodgers.
Don’t screw this up.
Signed, the rest of the NFC contenders.
That’s right. A lot of NFC teams have their eyes on this matchup.
Team Boyer is predicted to win, but as we all know, ESPN predictions are as reliable as a World of Noise fourth-round draft pick.
To make things better, one of the News Team’s running backs already has 2.7 points in the books. That’s not good. And with Arian Foster going up against a tough Bears defense and Jamaal Charles facing a sixth-ranked run defense in Pittsburgh, the News Team might want to cover his eyes this weekend.
It may not be pretty. (Perhaps karma for his kind words last week?)
Boyer has Tom Brady back in the lineup and we all know he likes to kill the Bills, so I expect at least 30 points there, possibly 40, and Marshawn Lynch should get over 100 yards and score at least one TD today.
Vincent Jackson and Dez Bryant both have good matchups, too, so I think that will be the reason why Team Boyer picks up the win this week.
Then again, and I have to add this, I would be surprised to see the News Team somehow come up with the points to win.
Why?
Because he’s the News Team, and dammit, I respect him.
Jammers’ Prediction: Team Boyer 134, News Team 128
Jimmy Jammers (3-6) at Real Houserville (6-3)
This is it. It’s the last-ditch effort to play fantasy football this season, and without fantasy hockey, it means I’ll just be writing recaps until the Super Bowl.
I need to have a dog in the fight and I need to win.
So, needing a win, I’d like to thank Darren Sproles and Antonio Brown (my first to picks in the draft) for going out this week.
Brown has been a bust all season and Sproles forces me to go to a guy that most everyone will say, “Who?”
Ronnie Hillman, of the Broncos, gets the nod today.
Why?
Because I was watching NFL Network and they called him the next Darren Sproles and Peyton Manning’s new lifeline.
Having an open RB slot, I was sold.
Yes, desperation has set it.
But I’d do anything to beat Houserville.
And my chances got a little better when Percy Harvin was listed as inactive for this week. That forces Brian Hartline into the lineup, which could be a bad thing as we all saw in Week 4, but he hasn’t produced like that since.
This matchup will come down to two things.
One, will Matthew Stafford throw touchdown passes instead of handing the ball off to Mikel Leshoure, who the Ville started this week, and two, will Doug Martin return to Earth.
If both of those happen, I’m alive for at least one more week.
If not, I’m calling Gary Bettman.
T-Money (2-7) at Jawz Attack (4-5)
The Money Man’s season is almost over. One more loss and it’s official, and even with a win, he could find himself eliminated.
The Attack, on the other hand, has to make a push now. At 4-5, he can’t afford a setback — especially in a week where he should win.
He put a lot into the Thursday night game and only got 31.3 points out of it. Vick Ballard scored just 6.3 and T.Y. Hilton had 3.5 points.
The Attack was limited with options as five players are on the bye and MJD on the IR.
He has tough matchups with Shonn Green and Steve Smith, so he’ll need some surprise performances from them, as well as a big Monday night from Ben Roethlisberger.
I expect the Money Man to be in the lead heading into Monday night, and depending on whether or not he sets his lineup, it may be a deficit that the Attack cannot overcome.
I’m going to assume that T-Money gets Frank Gore and another WR, perhaps Brandon Lloyd, into his lineup by 1 p.m., and gets enough to take down the Attack.
Jammers’ Prediction: T-Money 128, Attack 102
Graybill’s Generals (2-7) at World of Noise (3-6)
It isn’t over for the Noise. Not yet. And with a lineup that I actually think can compete with the best teams out there, perhaps he can make a run into the playoffs. He’ll need some help though. He’ll need either Fear or Houserville to go 1-3 the rest of the way, while he wins out.
It’s a long shot, but hey, we’ve seen crazier things happen in the JFL.
And this week, on paper, seems to be a win for the Noise. I’m not going to run through the whole matchup, but Matt Ryan and Michael Turner should get good points against the Saints defense, while this feels like a DeSean Jackson day against the Cowboys. I also like Marques Colston to remain hot, and that should be enough for the Noise to move to 4-6 and make this race interesting.
Today, he’s rooting for the Jammers and the Slackers to hand Houserville and Fear losses.
It’s all possible and it means we may have an interesting three-game stretch after this week.
