JFL Week 7 Preview: Will 3-3 teams rise or fall this week?

The Flyers lost a third straight game on Wednesday to fall to 1-7 on the season.

Why do I mention this?

Because immediately after the game ended, I thought about how I wish just one Philadelphia team would step up and have a decent year. It's been several sporting seasons since we've seen a competitive team in Philly.

The Phillies and Eagles have had two straight sub-par seasons, the Flyers are looking to be starting a second straight bad season, and who cares about the Sixers.

All four have fired coaches and all four are major disappointments.

That's what I wanted to write after the Flyers' loss.

But then, it dawned on me.

The Eagles are 3-3 and in first place.

I guess I should be more excited, but I'm not. I don't know why, but I just haven't been sold on this team yet. Today will be a big day for me and the Eagles.

A win over the Cowboys will go a long way to me either being depressed until pitchers and catchers report or me jumping back on the Chip Kelly bandwagon.

I jumped on that baby after 30 minutes of Week 1, but I snuck out the back after that game ended when the Redskins came within a touchdown of pulling off a great comeback win.

Five teams in the JFL have similar up-in-the-air fates today.

It's Week 7, we're halfway to the playoffs, and with five 3-3 teams, including two pairs facing each other, it's big to take that step into the direction of 4-3. If you go the other direction, you're likely in a situation where you'll need to win five of your last six to make the playoffs.

No one wants to be in that situation.

That's why it will be a fierce battle between Real Houserville and Channel 4 News Team, and the Sunday Slackers and Dottsville Toasters.

The Ville lucks out a bit facing Aaron Rodgers this week. First of all, he has Jordy Nelson and when it comes to healthy wide receivers, Nelson is it. The rest of the wide receivers are dropping like flies.

Rodgers is running out of trusty options and it will be beneficial to have the best of all that is left.

Still, if anyone could put up big numbers with a bunch of backups, it's Rodgers. The News Team will hope that the rest of the receivers step up big.

Or, perhaps a rushing TD or two?

That's what Houserville will want from his QB. Cam has two rushing TDs in 2013, and when he punches it in himself, he's averaging more than 40 fantasy points per game. When he doesn't, he's averaging less than 17.

That's a huge gap. (Discovered that fun fantasy stat fact myself, Dawson. Are you proud of me?)

We saw last week that it doesn't mean victory for the Ville if Newton scores 40, so I'm looking at Doug Martin and Kenbrell Thompkins to being big keys to Week 7. I think this will be a close matchup and TDs from these two will make the difference.

Looking at the other 3-3 battle, it's RGIII vs. Big Ben.

The Slackers are using Big Ben because Drew Brees is on the bye and the Toasters are using RGIII because Terrelle Pryor is on the bye. OK, the latter is a joke, but the fact is, the Toasters are in good shape to take that step forward to 4-3. The Slackers are rolling with three key players in the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game, a matchup that does not often produce a lot of fantasy points.

So when you have a QB, RB and WR from that one game, I start to worry for you.

It's one of those games where when you see a touchdown scored and it wasn't your guy, you start to sweat because you know points are going to be at a premium and if no-name guys are stealing points, you're in trouble. I think we'll see just that today, and the Toasters will win behind big days from Alfred Morris, Calvin Johnson and Anquan Boldin.

But with all that said, the matchup of the week is T-Money vs. Noise.

Both are 4-2 and both have gotten there in different ways.

The Noise is second in the JFL in points with 629.9, averaging 104.9 per week.

T-Money has scored much less (544.6), averaging 90.8 per week, but he's lucked out in that his opponents are averaging 80 points a week. In fact, the Jammers (that's right) were the first team to score more than 88 points against him, dropping a big 96.4 points on him.

This week, to move to 5-2, he will have to score more than 90 to win for sure. I'd say 100, but I'm not sure about the RB situation with the Noise.

But he's OK with Joseph Randle at RB, because let's be honest. His team is about the WRs. (He takes after his older brother.) He'll live and die with his No. 1 and No. 2 receivers.

I think this week, he'll live again.

The other big matchup is between the Jammers (3-3) and the Spacklers (4-2). Marshawn Lynch already has 15.6 points in the books and Philip Rivers and Danny Woodhead are in Jacksonville, so things are looking good for Boyer. The only thing I can hope for with that is the West Coast to East Coast curse. West Coast teams are notably sluggish with 1 p.m. starts on the East Coast, so that's my game plan.

That, and hope Stafford and Bush hook up for a long TD. The double-points would be clutch in a week where first place in the AFC East is on the line.

Jawz Attack will look to make sure that first place in the AFC East isn't that safe with a win over the Generals (he's got a huge head start with Russell Wilson's Thursday night), and the Chinese Organ Thieves (4-2) will look to make first place in the NFC West harder to touch with a win over the 1-5 Fear and Loathing.

Sorry to the Thieves for not talking about your matchup more. Blame the 1-5 Fear.
