AFC, NFC Championship Previews, and my Super Bowl pick

It's championship time and two tickets to JFL Super Bowl VIII are on the line.

In the AFC Championship, it's the Noise (8-5) vs. Fear and Loathing (8-6), where the former looks to make his second trip to the Super Bowl, while the latter is vying for just his second playoff win in franchise history.

Fear's first win came last week in dominating fashion, destroying the Jammers with Josh McCown's 50.8 fantasy points.

That won't happen this week.

Not because I don't think Josh McCown isn't that good. Nope. I don't think that at all. The Bears, however, apparently do because Jay Cutler is healthy and they're going back to him.

Not sure if I'd do that if I was the Bears head coach, but nevertheless, the decision has been made and Fear has to go back to his franchise QB, Andrew Luck.

Against Houston, I'd probably start Luck over McCown anyway. Luck had 45 points last week and I think he'll get another 30 this week.

And he'll need it because Knowshon Moreno had only 6.5 points on Thursday night.

Fear also should get good games out of Matt Forte and new acquisition Marques Colston.

But the game of the day in this matchup is Atlanta vs. Washington.

Four players are involved in this matchup, including three from World of Noise. He's pushing all his chips to the center of the table with Matt Ryan, Steven Jackson and Harry Douglas all playing.

You can bet if it's a 17-7 game or 13-7 — you catch my drift — the Noise is done.

Especially if any of those TDs go to Tony Gonzalez, the Fear's tight end.

That will be the key for Fear. Gonzalez has to steal some points from Ryan. And I think that will happen, and we'll see Fear continue his run to Super Bowl VIII.

Joining him?

Well, let's stick with the Falcons-Redskins game, because it has a huge bearing on the NFC Championship between the Dottsville Toasters (8-5) and the Channel 4 News Team (9-5).

For the Toasters, he would have liked to start RGIII, but the Redskins have shut him down. Perfect timing, right?

Instead, in this matchup, we'll see Nick Foles vs. Ryan Tannehill, just the QB matchup that we thought we would see in the NFC Championship.

Dottsville could have added Kirk Cousins, Washington's backup, but he went with Ryan Tannehill, who has scored more than 26 points in three straight weeks. The Toasters will look to make that four against the Patriots defense, which gives up a lot of passing points.

News Team would have been starting Tannehill this week in Aaron Rodgers' stead, but he dropped Tannehill weeks ago to pick up Nick Foles. The Eagles' QB has been on fire since Week 9, and yes, 23.8 points last week really doesn't qualify as "fire" by itself, but when you factor in 8 inches of snow on the field, 23.8 points is like 40.

Against Minnesota today, Foles is set up to have a huge week.

Big weeks are also expected from Jamaal Charles and Josh Gordon. I also like the pickup of Dennis Pita. I was thinking of grabbing him if I was still around for Week 15, but I'm not.

For the Toasters, he's going to have to hope for a big day out of Calvin Johnson to make up for what Charles and Gordon will do on the other side. He'll also hope for a little magic from Golden Tate. It's a reach, but against the Giants, anything can happen. It could turn into a genius move.

Against the Giants. Ha. That's also why I like the Seahawks defense this week. A pick-six could be in the books for the Toasters. That could be enough to flip the script.

This matchup will not end until Monday as it will be Dennis Pitta vs. Calvin Johnson to close out the matchup. They will already know their opponent as the AFC Championship will be complete after the 4 p.m. games.

My gut says the News Team wins this one, but I'm actually going to go the other way. While I said that Josh Gordon is in for a big day — because that's all he does lately — I think this may be the week he finally gets limited to just 15 points.

Ha, just 15. That's how good he's been.

But I think that would be enough for the Toasters if he gets the right numbers out of his starters.

I'm picking the Toasters. Alfred Morris scores 20-plus points. Tate gets in the end zone for double-digits, and Brent Celek steals a TD from Foles.

So get ready for it. Fear vs. Toasters. Toasters vs. Fear. Super Bowl VIII.
