JimmyJam League Baseball: Fantasy News (6.3.14)

The American League may need to get together and hold a team meeting.

After Week 1 of Interleague play, they really do not have much to stand on. The Gameday Gamblers squeaked out a 9-8-7 win over the Slammers in the only remotely close matchup of the week.

The rest of the National League combined to pummel the American League 85-23-12.

Ouch.

In total, after one week of Interleague, the score is 93-34-19.

That's not even close.
Slammer Curse?
How does it continue to get worse and worse for the Jerks?

He's added another high profile player to his ever-growing list
of DL eligible players.

His five DL slots have been filled for a while, and he's been forced
to have both Brandon Belt and Nolan Arenado hurt on the bench.

Now, Wil Myers is joining them.

Interestingly enough, all three of those players were players I
made verbal trade offers for before they got injured.

It will certainly make the Jerk think twice before saying "No" to
any deal I offer. He better say yes before the player goes down.

With that, I would like to offer up James Shields for Zack Greinke.

You have two days to accept... And you better do it before
Greinke trips over a puppy or something.

The Otto Parts picked up the biggest win at 20-4-0 over the Handi Jerks, and that would have gotten him back into the playoff conversation if it weren't for the fact that everyone else — outside of my team — dominated. He still sits 23 games back, and after the NL domination, I find myself 20.5 games back.

Vandelay remains in first place after a 16-5-3 win over the American League's best team, Big League Choo. The Philly Cheese Steaks stay in second after a huge 18-4-2 win over the Bombers, and the Outs won 17-4-3 over the Sex Panthers and Steroid.ERA won 14-6-4 over Coldsmith.

Vandelay kind of lucked out in that he faced the Choo who had an awful week. Hell, I would have won 12 games against Choo, and Vandelay would have only won 11-9-4 over the Gamblers.

Choo's pitchers all blew up to post a 6.20 ERA and his offense had just 61 hits and 16 RBIs.

A pair of complete games, including a shutout by Lance Lynn helped Vandelay pick up two extra wins and finish off the Bar-B-Choo.

It was great pitching weeks all around for the National League as the Cheese Steaks went 9-1-2 in pitching with 8 quality starts, a CG, 83 strikeouts, 9-3 record, 2.99 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. It was no match for the Bombers' 5.33 ERA.

The Outs posted a line of 8 quality starts, 109 strikeouts, 2 CG SOs, 8-3 record, 3.25 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. The Sex Panthers were the hard-luck losers in this instance, posted 12 quality starts, 106 strikeouts, 8-5 record, 3.35 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. ... That's just unfair.

Gina was baffled after the week ended. What can you do when that happens?
Springin' Into Action
Prospects continue to get more and more exciting, especially the
bats.

We've all had our crushes with prospect pitchers, but more often
than not, we are seeing some impressive call-ups at the plate.

The most recent sensation has been George Springer.

The Jerk is smacking himself right about now. And perhaps, Choo,
too, but he could regret not trading most of the MLB universe.

Springer has been on fire, batting .307 (31-for-101) with 23 runs
scored, 15 singles, five doubles, a triple, 10 homers, 24 RBIs, four
GWRBIs and 13 walks to 34 strikeouts.

He's been a welcome addition to the Cheese Steaks, who continue
to impress in his first year of competition.

This team looks nothing like the one we knew as "Team Suck."

The Cheese Steaks' moves have all paid off. Hanley Ramirez, Daniel
Murphy, Justin Upton, Jose Bautista, Springer and Hyun-Jin Ryu
are all trade acquisitions that have him sitting pretty in second
place in the National League.

Add in a few great draft picks — Scott Kazmir, Tim Hudson and
Alex Rios — as well as his free agent pickup of Pablo Sandoval,
and he's in the driver seat heading into the second half of the
fantasy baseball season.

The Otto Parts also had a CG SO, posting 7 quality starts, 97 strikeouts, 8-4 record, 3.69 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.

Steroid didn't get the CG SO, but he still did well with 7 quality starts, 83 strikeouts, 4-4 record, 2.81 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.

As you can see, the National League did well on the pitching end, but that wasn't all.

It's not like these teams skated by with .250 batting averages to win big. Philly Cheese (.302), the Outs (.302), Otto Parts (.332) and Steroid (.284) all had big weeks at the plates. All four had 9 or more home runs, with Steroid pounding 14 — including five from the Parrot Man, Edwin Encarnacion, and four from Josh Donaldson. Both had double-digit hits, as did Oswaldo Arcia.

The Otto Parts' offense, with that .332 average, really came alive last week with seven players recording at least eight hits. That included Miguel Cabrera, who had three homers and seven RBIs. Both Allen Craig and Jason Heyward had big weeks with a pair of homers each. The only offensive category he lost was strikeouts. Hell, he had seven GWRBIs, nine SACs, seven stolen bases and three triples. If that doesn't give you an idea of how good his offense was, I don't know what will.

He'll need that to continue over the next month to get back into the playoff hunt.
