It was quite the crazy weekend in the NFL. Nine games were
blowouts with all nine featuring a team with 38 or more points and at least a
13-point margin of victory.
That’s insane.
All those big scores led to some big performances in the
JFL.
Jamaal Charles’ three TD game helped the Channel 4 News Team
rally back after Matt Asiata’s three TDs put him in position to beat the
Generals.
Jordy Nelson’s two TDs helped Boyer easily beat the Organ
Thieves, while big QB performances helped numerous other teams pick up wins in
Week 4, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the two big wins the helped the
Jammers and Fear move to 4-0.
I know, you’re probably tired of me writing about my team,
but to be fair, I write about undefeated teams all the time, no matter who it is.
For Fear, the 4-0 start is his best start in franchise
history. His prior best mark was a 3-1 start (which eventually got as good as
5-1) in 2012.
For the Jammers, it’s the third time in franchise history
that the team has boasted a 4-0 record. The best start can be matched next week
as the 2006 squad started 5-0 en route to a 14-1 mark and Super Bowl title.
And in case you’re wondering, in order for there to be a
great undefeated battle between the Fear and the Jammers, they’d both have to
be 9-0 heading into their Week 10 matchup. With the way they're scoring, it's possible.
Fear and Loathing 129,
Real Houserville 96.9
SO MUCH FOR THAT:
At one point on Sunday afternoon, Aaron Rodgers was racking up the points with
three first-half TDs, while Andrew Luck went into the locker room with just one
TD. Things were looking good for Houserville. Then, they played the final 30
minutes, where Luck tossed three more TDs to finish with 42.4 points. Rodgers
also finished with four TDs and 39.8 points, but it didn’t really matter after
Luck did what he did.
BACKING UP THEIR
PRAISE: After Luck wiped out Rodgers’ big day, Houserville’s only hope was
that the RBs didn’t live up to the praise I gave them in the preview. … That
didn’t happen. DeMarco Murray scored another 27.7 points Sunday, rushing for
more than 100 yards for the fourth straight game. He got into the end zone for
the fourth straight game, scoring twice. If he stays healthy, we may be talking
about one of the greatest fantasy performances by a running back. He’s on pace
for 2,136 yards rushing and 20 TDs. That’s (give or take a few based on point
bonuses and receiving yards) 333.6 points. And to think Le’Veon Bell has been
great, too. Fear is on a run, a great run.
RUNNING AWAY WITH A
WALKER: Delanie Walker is a top-tier fantasy tight end after four weeks. He
scored his third TD of the season Sunday, and he’s reached double-digits in
three out of four weeks. Drafted in the 10th round, he went behind several
tight ends who are having nowhere near the same success.
Jimmy Jammers 119.2,
Choo Big TeeDees 96.9
ANOTHER QB WHITEWASH:
For the most part, Colin Kaepernick did everything Choo wanted. He had to match
Matthew Stafford, and though he came up six points short, it was closer than
what it could have been. Kaepernick had yet to reach 24 points prior to Week 4, so his 29.3
points were big.
TWO BIG PLAYS MADE IT
CLOSE: A 55-yard TD pass from Kaepernick to Frank Gore that was worth
nearly 24 points really closed the gap in this matchup as it headed into the
Sunday night game. Still, the Jammers had Jimmy Graham and Dez Bryant left, but
after they did virtually nothing for three quarters, Choo found himself within
striking distance following Khiry Robinson’s 62-yard run. After that, it was
all of a sudden a four-point game. It felt like Monday night football all over again
with the Jerk and Matt Forte. But fortunately for me — or as Choo would say,
“luckily” for me — both Graham and Bryant scored in the fourth to put it out of
reach.
EAGLES OFF-DEFENSE?:
With three TDs, the Eagles defense increased their total to five on the season
and made Choo a very angry man. The 26.5 points from a defense was something
like we saw in the JFL’s past. If this was 2010, that the Eagles defense may
have easily hit about 40 or 50 points, which is why we changed the system.
Defenses were having too big of an impact when they did nothing. You could get
to 20 points by doing nothing, so we had to change that. But when your defense
scores three TDs, man, there’s no way to prevent them from making a huge impact
in a matchups.
World of Noise 113.7,
Shark Attack 99.8
IT’S HAPPENING AGAIN:
Noise is good again. Five double-digit performers lifted him to this win over
the old guy, Uncle Jason. Which is ironic considering he used a bunch of old
guys to do it. Steve Smith scored 29.3 to make Carolina look silly, Reggie Wayne
had 19.3 against the Titans and Roddy White had 14.1. Damn, I did it again. I
called these guys old only to find out they’re about my edge. Man, I really
need to stop that.
HAD THE POINTS:
The Attack had the points on the bench to win with Eddie Royal, who now has
four TDs in two weeks, but you can’t blame him. Antonio Brown (27 points) and
Kelvin Benjamin (14.6) have to be in the lineup weekly, as does Brandon
Marshall. Now, Marshall let him down with only 8.3 points, but there’s no way
he doesn’t go into most weeks with those three guys lining up for him. They’re
the reason he’s got the fourth-most points in the JFL. Unfortunately for him,
he’s 1-3 and 0-3 in the division because the rest of his division scored 112.5
points or more on him in three consecutive weeks. To put it in perspective, if
that happened to me, I’d be 2-2.
TORCHED TO THE
NEGATIVE: The Falcons defense posted the second-worst score in JFL history
with the negative-4.3 they had last week for the Attack. Rex Grossman still
holds the record with negative-7. For the Attack, he just has to be happy he
didn’t lose by 4.3.
Jerkin’ My
Kirk Herbstreit 132.5, Sunday Slackers 76.5
DEAD IN THE WATER:
The Slackers are in trouble. This didn’t look good from the start and he’s now
in a position where he’s scored 76.7 or fewer points in three straight weeks,
and he has yet to crack 91. With Drew Brees and A.J. Green, that’s hard to
believe, but with Green on the bye and injured in other weeks, he really needs
a pick-me-up heading into Week 5.
FIGURES: All
Parker wanted a week ago was for Matt Forte to score 12 points. Of course, he
fell well short of that, only to go for 18.1 this week against him. It was one of four
big performances that fueled the Jerk. Eli Manning had 44.1 in a big win over
the Sadskins, while Randall Cobb scored 24.7 vs. Chicago. Kenan Allen chipped
in with 15.5 in the rout.
MANNING THE SHIP:
Eli Manning is not a bad fantasy QB. Last year was a bad year, yes, but he
isn’t far removed from being one of the better fantasy QBs. He’s had big years,
and right now, things seem to be coming into shape. He’s ranked seventh overall
at QB and if this upward swing continues, the Jerk could find himself in a
battle for the division title.
Chalupa Batman 95.2,
Dottsville Toasters 86.3
MEGAMISSING: For the
Toasters to be successful, he needs his keeper to be a force. At the very
least, he needs more than 1.6 points from him. Hell, at least get to double
digits. If he would have done that, he would have just barely won — and just
barely, because the Panthers’ negative-3.5 points.
SWEATING IT OUT:
The Toasters have been known to win a few Monday night comebacks, and even
though Chalupa wouldn’t really know this, he still had to be worried when Alex
Smith started creeping into the high 20s. All of a sudden, he got to 30 points
and it was a nine-point game. But that was as close as it got.
MIGHTY RIVERS: He's so
underrated in drafts. Philip Rivers dropped to fifth in the draft and Chalupa was
perfectly fine with that. It was his plan. And his 40.5 points on Sunday helped
Chalupa survive the Marshawn Lynch bye week. He’s ranked third in fantasy and
with performances like this, the Batman may find himself over .500 soon.
T-Money 86.1, Philly
Cheese Steaks 81.1
PURE HATE: The
Cheese Steaks hate Dallas, with every ounce of his body. So if he ever needed
another reason to hate them more, the Cowboys gave him one on Sunday night.
Leading by several scores and not in need of a TD, Tony Romo tossed an
unnecessary TD pass to Dez Bryant. I hate the Cowboys, too, but I, of course, enjoyed the Dez Bryant TD. Cheese
Steaks, however, blew up. He texted me immediately. He was so mad. He was winning and would have won had the Cowboys run
the ball. Instead, the Romo TD fueled the five-point win.
CAN’T COMPLAIN TOO
MUCH: As much as he hated the play call, the Cheese Steaks can only look in
the mirror. His QB did not come through. Nick Foles scored just 7.6 points
after three stellar weeks of fantasy football. That absolutely killed him. And
to think, with time winding down and the ball on the goal line, Foles could
have won this matchup with a late TD. I would have enjoyed that, too.
THE BIG MISTAKE:
Cheese Steaks knew immediately. He made a mistake. When you face a team with a
QB who throws to one of the WRs on your roster, you start the WR. In most
cases, especially if he is a No. 1 or 2 receiver, he will minimize the QB’s
impact. Terrance Williams could have done that and more with his 20.9 points on
the bench.
Channel 4 News Team
108, Graybill’s Generals 85.7
WELL, THAT ESCALATED
QUICKLY: The Generals woke up Monday thinking he might just survive. He
might actually get that first win. But then, Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce
combined for 46.3 points on Monday night to turn a deficit into a rout.
MAKING MOVES:
With two straight wins in his pocket, the News Team made some moves on Tuesday,
sending Matt Asiata away for Andy Dalton and Travis Kelce away for Knile Davis.
The Dalton deal gives him another good option at QB if Kirk Cousins struggles,
and the Knile Davis deal provides him with the security at RB. Now, if Charles
goes down again, he won’t have to worry. Davis can handle it. Plus, the last
time he traded an RB to the Jammers for a QB, he won two Super bowls.
THE REAL McCOY:
Where is he? With 2.2 points in Week 3 and 1.7 in Week 4, how much longer can
the Generals put up with this? It’s not a McCoy problem, though. It’s an
offensive line issue. This makeshift line for the Eagles cannot run block to
save their lives. And if Chip Kelly’s offense can’t run block, it will fall
apart. Even worse for the Generals? Cam Newton hasn’t been anywhere near the QB
he needs. At 0-4, it’s going to take a lot to get back into the race.
Team Boyer 90.6,
Chinese Organ Thieves 69.7
WE COULD HAVE DONE
THAT: That’s what the Thieves trio of Broncos said of the team’s 69.7
points. Together, they have the firepower to reach that point total on their
own, so I’m sure the Thieves isn’t worried about falling to 2-2. He heads into
Week 5 now knowing that he’ll have Peyton Manning, Emmanuel Sanders and Julius
Thomas — barring injury — for every week here on out.
THE BRADY BENCH?:
At what point do you give up on Tom Brady? That’s really tough. It’s even
harder when your backup is E.J. Manuel whose Buffalo Bills officially gave up
on him. Look for Boyer to be in the running for Kyle Orton on the waiver wire. He’ll
need that insurance. But I also think that Brady can’t keep this up. He has
some weapons and should be more effective. Boyer has to hope, while at the same
time be happy that with a QB scoring in the low-teens, he enters Week 5 at 2-2.
THANK YOU, JORDY:
Boyer should buy a Jordy Nelson jersey to support the reason he has two wins.
His 31.7 points in Week 2 led him to a win and his 24.8 this week led Boyer to
another. He’s getting the targets and should continue to get them moving
forward. Right now, Nelson has turned into a great second-round pick. It surely
makes up for the Tom Brady guy in the first round.
