JimmyJam League Baseball: NL & AL Wild Cards Underway (9.2.14)

Choo is bored. So bored that during his bye week, he’s grabbing a bunch of players who will never be long-term members of the Choo — I know, who is?

Choo completed his regular season with a 13-7-4 win to finish with an overall record of 257-187-60, the best mark in the JLB. He won the American League by 34.5 games.

The second-best record goes to the Cheese Steaks, who won the National League by just one game. He picked up a 15-7-2 win over the Slammers, a fitting end to my season. He blasted 13 homer runs — I never had a chance with my three — and his 2.42 ERA bested my 2.81 mark.

Had I been in the hunt for a playoff spot, it would have been worse on the ERA front because I accidentally benched David Price’s 8-run shellacking early in the week.

Angel Pagan led the way offensively with 11 hits and Jose Bautista hit four home runs. Pagan, who was an April 1 free agent pickup for the Steaks, has been consistent all season, batting .304 with 49 runs scored.

The Steaks, of course, got some more contribution from the “Tanaka” deal, as Jorge Soler finally arrived, going 5-for-7 with two home runs and four RBIs against my team. Overall, he’s on fire, batting .526 (10-for-15) with three homers, seven RBIs and four runs scored.

When you look back at all he got from the Tanaka deal, it’s truly unbelievable. Coldsmith, I hope you’re studying this because with the No. 1 pick next year, you now know what it’s worth.

And maybe you can sway the Jerks into trading. He’s a sucker for March deals. Just ask the Outs, who posted a 19-3-2 win in the final week over Vandelay. Madison Bumgarner fueled the huge win for the Outs, posting a CG SO in one of his two quality starts on the week. In total, he logged 15 innings with 20 strikeouts, 2-0 record and a 0.60 ERA. Matt Holliday also had a monster week, batting 10-for-27 with four homers, 13 RBIs and five runs scored.

With the 19-3-2 win, the Outs actually finished with one more win than the Cheese Steaks, but with three more losses, he found himself in second place.

He’ll have to face Vandelay once more in 2014 to get a chance to face the Steaks in the NLCS.

Choo will face the winner of the Gamblers-Bombers matchup, which also is a rematch of the regular-season finale. The Bombers won 10-9-5 in what turned out to be a meaningless matchup because the Jerks just couldn’t pick up the win he needed — which was the case over much of the latter part of the season.
