It’s the Eagles bye week, which means it’s a Red Zone day
all day, and that’s not a bad thing. I hate the bye week, but then again, it’s
nice to get a mental break.
But then there’s the two-game losing streak for me that will
make this day stressful for me.
I’m not the only one dealing with streaks this Sunday. Jawz
has lost five straight and after Thursday, he’s got to be worried about six.
On the flip side, three teams are feeling great as Fear is
still undefeated at 6-0, T-Money is rolling with four straight win and the Jerk
has quietly won three in a row. So has Team Boyer, and all four teams sit atop
their divisions. They’ll look to pad their leads today and keep streaking. The just need to make sure they bring their green hats.
Here are the previews without some of the information I
usually provide because at 11:40 a.m., I don’t feel like scouring the JFL
record book for history and series records.
CHANNEL 4 NEWS TEAM
(3-3) at FEAR AND LOATHING (6-0)
THIS IS THE ONE:
The one matchup that we should all keep our eyes on this weekend is News Team
vs. Fear and Loathing, the Super Bowl champs vs. the undefeated Fear. And this
week, we have a hell of a matchup at RB. News Team will send out Jamaal Charles
and Giovani Bernard, both in decent matchups, vs. the Fear’s duo of DeMarco
Murray and Le’Veon Bell, both who have even better matchups. I wouldn’t be
surprised to see Murray close to 200 yards rushing this week. I think Bernard
will also have a good week, too, so really, by the end of the week, the RB
totals may wash each other out. It’s worth noting that Bell doesn’t play until
Monday night, so the comeback may be on.
UP TO THE QBs:
Based on the WRs starting — News Team is going with a pair of Browns while Fear
has a Raider in the lineup with Julian Edelman’s 6 points on Thursday — if the
RBs wash, it may really come down to the QBs, where Fear has the upper hand in
ranking because Andrew Luck is just on fire, but don’t give him the win just on
that. Kirk Cousins has a decent matchup and could put up some big points on
Sunday.
BEWARE OF WALKERS:
News Team got a lousy 2.8-point performance out of Jace Amaro on Thursday, and
that means the Fear can pick up some points at the tight end position, but
Delanie Walker hasn’t been like man we saw in Weeks 1, 2 and 4. He gets 3 to 5
targets, but he’s shown he needs to score to make it worth it.
GRAYBILL’S GENERALS
(0-6) at REAL HOUSERVILLE (3-3)
SO MUCH FOR THAT:
Shane Vereen scored 26.4 points on Thursday, making one wonder why did
Houserville trade for LeSean McCoy? Ah, I’m just kidding. We all know that this
26.4 points was an aberration and we’ll not see it again, at least not from
this New England back. They all take turns having big days.
FUNNY HOW IT WORKS:
It’s crazy that the week after two teams make a big deal, they play each other.
I feel like we see this a lot in sports, and now it’s happening in fantasy
sports. For this week, the Generals are OK with the deal because LeSean McCoy
is on the bye and he gained DeSean Jackson against his opponent. If it weren’t
for Vereen’s big day, the Generals would be in line for their first win, but
now, he may come up short. Still, it’d be hilarious if Jackson was the
difference maker in the Generals’ first win. … It’s also funny how often teams
will face each other and their QBs will be squaring off. That’s happening again
with the Generals’ Cam Newton hosting Aaron Rodgers of Houserville.
LEEWAY:
Houserville had that at WR, that’s why he made the deal, but he’ll need Julio
Jones to strengthen up and get back to the beast we saw in the first three
weeks.
CHINESE ORGAN THIEVES
(3-3) at WORLD OF NOISE (4-2)
IVORY COASTS: The
11th round pick started out really strong for the Noise, scoring double-digits
in the first four weeks. Then, he had a pair of snoozers (4.4 points and 2.3),
but the Noise held strong with his starting back, and it paid off Thursday. He
ran for 107 yards and a TD for 19.3 points. He’s been the Jets best back, which
disappoints the Thieves greatly, considering he drafted CJ2K — or, more
like, CJ-Point-ZERO-2K.
SUNDAY NIGHT: It
will really come down to Sunday night football. The Noise will be complete once
the 1 p.m. games are over, leaving the Broncos trio to go off on NBC. But, not
so fast. It’s the 49ers, and that could pose some matchup issues. Nevertheless,
Manning is going for the TD record and I’m sure he’ll get there. One thing is
for sure, the Thieves will be in a bit of a pickle. As a 49ers fan, he will
have to boo the three men he has entrusted to lead him to a Super Bowl.
STORM BREWING?: I
think the Jaguars are going to win over the Browns today. I’m torn about
picking Blake Bortles over Matthew Stafford, but I don’t think I have the
courage to do that, but for the Thieves, he has to start Storm Johnson. I think
he’ll see 15 to 20 touches today and get double-digits for the first time this
season.
PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS
(3-3) at JERKIN’ MY KIRK HERBSTREIT (4-2)
ORTON TIME: For
the one week the Cheese Steaks can’t start Nick Foles, it’s turned into a great
situation. He grabbed Kyle Orton on Oct. 8 off of waivers for this moment and
it’s a great pick up. Against Minnesota, I think he’s going to have a good day.
Let’s say 280 yards and three TDs. He will definitely outplay Eli Manning, who
I think is in a bit of trouble. I believe the Cowboys defense will deliver a
similar punch the Eagles handed him, and with DeMarco Murray running all over
the Giants, the clock will run and the ball will stay away from Eli.
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN
ANOTHER EXAMPLE: I believe ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is reporting that a deal
nearly went down between these two teams. If it did, it would have been another
case of trade partners playing each other right away. Let’s just say, I think
the Jerk will be happy after this weekend that he kept his WRs.
CUT THE CORD?:
The Steaks don’t want to do it yet, but it’s getting close. Cordarrelle
Patterson is on the verge of being benched. I think a big play today, though, will
keep him alive for another week.
DOTTSVILLE TOASTERS (3-3)
at JIMMY JAMMERS (4-2)
END THE STREAK: Starting
4-0 is awesome. Staring at a 4-2 record two weeks later is annoying. I
definitely want to end this streak. After Thursday night, we’re fairly even
with both of our wideouts finishing within a point of each other. It was quite
scary seeing the Jets move downfield late because I knew one big Eric Decker
catch could have ruined my night.
GRAHAM IS A GO:
Amazing. He was said to be out two to three weeks, and he’s going to play. It’s
on a limited basis, but Graham on a limited basis is better than most tight
ends. Especially if you remember that one time he played in red zone
opportunities only and he scored two TDs. Maybe that will happen again.
SEAHAWK BOUNCEBACK:
After losing at home for the first time in a long time, the Seahawks go on the
road to St. Louis, and I expect them to take it out on the Rams. The Toasters
have Russell Wilson and I now have Marshawn Lynch. This matchup could come down
to who has the better Seahawk day. Of course, any rushing TD by Wilson will
significantly hurt my chances. I’m going to be optimistic that the Seahawks are
going back to basics — and that’s running the ball with Lynch.
TEAM BOYER (4-2) at
SHARK ATTACK (1-5)
NEED A SPACKLER?:
I’m sure Jawz made a call to Boyer on Friday. He needed a good spackler because
he punched several holes in his living room wall on Thursday night. “How could
this be happening again!” he screamed over and over as Tom Brady scored 33
points on him. Every week, opposing players go off. So expect Joique Bell to
score two TDs, Mike Wallace to catch 10 passes for 180 yards and Antonio Gates
to have one of his three TD days. It’s going to happen because it’s against
Jawz. So, Boyer, pack up your tools and spackle and head to Northern
Pennsylvania. There will be a few more holes made today.
IT’S A SHAME: It
really is, because the Jawz should hit 100 points today. He’s got a good team.
He’s got a team that can run with the big dogs, it’s just he keeps going up
against the high scorers. If only there was a system that would let him win a
second-place prize. Oh, wait. There is! The JFL Playoff Challenge. Jawz may
enter this thing at 1-12, and he could be a favorite to finish second and pick
up some cheddar.
T-MONEY (4-2) at
SUNDAY SLACKERS (2-4)
BACKSPLOSION: Ben
Tate has a great matchup and on paper, he should go for big numbers today.
Antone Smith has a bad matchup when it comes to running the ball, but
considering the fact he only needs one big play to hit double-digits, every
matchup is good for him. I’ll be speechless if Smith scores another long TD
today. … On the other side, Alfred Morris has a great matchup and should match
Tate in production (“should” being the key word). Branden Oliver has a test
today and perhaps we see his first bad day as a starter. If we don’t, then he’s
for real.
WINDBREAKERS: The
Detroit defense is No. 1 and they have the tools to stop Brees, but will they?
I’m selfishly hoping for a shootout, but the numbers suggest a much different
game. Off a bye, you would think the Saints would be able to do some damage
against the No. 1 defense.
AL-SHINE: It’s
been all good for Alshon in recent weeks. He’s had four straight double-digit
performances, all in the teens, and he’s been a big reason T-Money has won four
straight. I think he’ll make it five straight today behind a big day from
Alshon Jeffery. The Chicago wideout had a performance for the JFL record books
last year, and I think he’ll do something special today. Just a feeling. I’m
not expecting the 40-some points he had last year, but high 20s, maybe even 30s
could be on the docket today.
CHALUPA BATMAN (2-4)
at CHOO BIG TEEDEES (2-4)
CHOOLOOPA: These
two teams share a common bond. Both are 2-4 coming off close losses. They need
a win in the worst way to get back in it. They can’t fall back to 2-5 in their
divisions.
BYE, BYE BUCS: As
a Bucs fan, Chalupa has had a really tough season. It’s been even worse that he
drafted with his heart and grabbed a few Bucs to lead his team. This week,
he’ll throw out a Buc-less fantasy squad and it may be better off.
CASHING IN:
Chalupa made a big trade to get Dez Bryant, and that may come in handy today
against the Giants, but the bigger acquisition may be at tight end. He’ll send
out a thank you card tomorrow to Graybill who dropped one Colts tight end to
grab another. Yes, Dwayne Allen has a few more points, but Fleener is still
ranked 15th among tight ends. I’m really not sure about that upgrade, but
Chalupa will take it. I think Fleener, overall, will be the better tight end
option for the Colts when the season is said and done. We’ll see that today
when Fleener outscores Allen.
SUNDAY NIGHT
CHOOBALL: When the NBC game kicks off, Chalupa’s point total will be locked
in. Choo’s will be drastically changing as he has Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore
and Demaryius Thomas going. If Choo is trailing by 50 or fewer points, Chalupa
will have to worry. Even if it’s within 60, Chalupa may not feel safe,
especially if it’s a Mile High shootout.
