JimmyJam League Baseball: Postseason Awards (11.13.14)

The awards are in and five different owners are happy.

One is extremely happy.

Parker is the only double award-winner, and he gets the Cy Young and MVP award with Clayton Kershaw, and that's absolute crap. Andrew McCutchen is the MVP. The pitchers have their own award, the Cy Young. The MVP belongs to players.

The Outs have the other Cy Young award winner in Cory Kluber who really threw us for a loop this year. I can't believe I even questioned the keeping of Kluber and then he goes and wins the Cy Young. That will be the last time I do that for the Outs.

Choo had the AL Rookie of the Year in Jose Abreu because he fought the urge to trade him at every second, and the N.J. Bombers called it a few days before and was right on the money with Jacob deGromm winning NL Rookie of the Year.

The Otto Parts managed an award, too, with Mike Trout's AL MVP award.

All of these awards were deserving, but I must say, the voting process bugs me. All the votes are due before the playoffs.

You see the flaws in that process this year with the Manager of the Year award. In the NL, it went to Matt Williams of the Nationals, who edged out Bruce Bochy. But how on Earth can Bochy lose the Manager of the Year award to the man he out-managed in the playoffs?

It's just dumb. Bochy deserves that award.

The same problems could arise in the other awards, too. Kershaw was by far the Cy Young winner of the regular season, but when you factor in the postseason, I can make a strong case for Madison Bumgarner. Kershaw likely still wins the Cy Young, but you'll see what I mean in that it's very close.

In the regular season, Bumgarner went 18-10 with a 2.98 ERA, 219 strikeouts, 4 CGs, 2 SOs. In the playoffs, he went 4-1 with a 1.03 ERA, 45 strikeouts, 2 CG, 2 SOs.

That totals to a 22-11 record, 2.60 ERA, 264 strikeouts, 6 CGs and 4 SOs.

For Kershaw, his regular season totals were 21-3, 1.77 ERA, 6 CG, 2 SOs, 239 strikeouts. In the playoffs, he went 0-2 with a 7.82 ERA and 19 strikeouts.

That totals to a 21-5 record, 2.13 ERA, 258 strikeouts, 6 CG and 2 SOs.

As I said, Kershaw still wins Cy Young, but the MVP may be out the window if they vote later.
