JLB Fantasy Notes (4.8.15)

The Jargon’s “Take Five” from Tuesday.

1. LAMB CHOPS
It’s very early to get over excited, but after two games, the Bombers has to be overjoyed with his ninth-round pick, Arizona’s Jake Lamb. After a bases-clearing pinch-hit double on Monday, he went 1-for-3 Tuesday with four RBIs. He blasted a three-run homer in the game, giving him seven RBIs in two games. I’m guessing he’ll get some looks at UTIL in the coming days.

2. ROCKIN’ IT
The Colorado Rockies are 2-0 for the first time since 2001, and the offense has been a huge reason. Their 12 doubles in two games are a new MLB record, and the Cheese Steaks has enjoyed his production from Troy Tulowitzki (2-for-5 Tuesday) and Corey Dickerson (1-for-3). In total, Steaks added six RBIs last night and now has 18, which is seven more than anyone else this week.

3. SLAMMER FUTILITY
I was 0-for-9 on Opening Night and 0-for-23 heading the ninth inning of the Dodgers-Padres game Tuesday night. Fortunately, Wil Myers and Will Middlebrooks willed me to a 2-for-25 night. Ugly. My only saving grace, Otto’s legion of MVPs were 5-for-33.

4. THE CURSE OF THE JERK
I mean, seriously. How does he do this? Justin Verlander has been in the Majors for 11 years and never had a DL stint. Never. Until now. After being drafted by the Jerk, he was tossed on the DL and will have his 2015 debut delayed. Players may start to lobby Jerk not to acquire them.

“Hey, Jerk, you seem to have some extra income coming in, what’s that about?”

“Oh, just getting my ‘Do Not Acquire’ checks from last year’s breakout stars.”

5. TRANSACTION TUESDAY
It was the first day anyone could touch the free agents and man was it a busy day. Thirty-one transactions in all, and the best ones so far — of course, based off of one day of action — were Travis Snider and C.J. Wilson. The Cheese Steaks got Snider off of waivers and he went 1-for-1 with three walks, a run scored and an RBI in his Steaks debut. That comes after his 3-for-4 Opening Day performance. The other pickup that looks good after one day is C.J. Wilson, who pitched eight scoreless innings allowing just two hits. Sadly, since it was me who picked him up, it was too late. I waivered on it all day and after two scoreless innings, I snagged him. I fully expected him to blow up after that, but he did not. I’m sure he’ll blow up in his next start when it will count toward my stats.
