JFL Preview: Graybill set to go from worst to first in NFC West

The dreaded Organ Thieves are gone. After winning his fifth division title last season, he decided he had had enough of the JFL and decided to focus on his own fantasy league.

That opened the door for the Bombers to join the JFL and he takes over a franchise that has a storied history — 71 wins and a Super Bowl title in nine years of service.

The biggest sigh of relief has to come from the Graybill’s Generals, who in nine years, went 5-12 against the Organ Thieves. Only T-Money has a worse JFL record against another team, going 4-13 against Team Boyer.

It’s worth noting — well, maybe just fun to note — that the Noise is the only team to have double-digit losses to two franchises, 11 to Fear and 11 to Houserville. It’s a wonder why he talks so much.

But, let’s get back to the NFC West.

The Generals are relieved now that he doesn’t have to face the Thieves, and he has to be feeling better heading into 2015. I mean, it can’t be any worse than last season when he went 2-11.

With a strong draft, I believe he has a decent chance to flip the script and turn 2-11 into a division title.

The Bombers and Boyer will cause some trouble, but on paper, it looks like the Generals are the top dog in 2015.

Generals moving up the ranks, ready to end the drought
The Generals have had a rough go of it of late. Six straight losing seasons have led to a 49-74 franchise record.

He does have that Super Bowl title from 2008 on the shelf, but nevertheless, he definitely wants to get back on the winning side of things — especially after last season’s 2-11 mark.

But can he pull off the worst to first?

Short answer from me, yes, he can.

I love what Graybill ended up with after the draft. I don’t like how he got there because I still will never understand why he didn’t keep a player from a later round and use that first pick to draft Eddie Lacy.

Still, he has Lacy at RB, to go with Andre Ellington and Ryan Mathews. With his receivers, he really only needs to roll with one of these guys each week, but I could easily see him formulating a lineup with Lacy and Ellington, or even Lacy and Mathews.

That’s because Demaryius Thomas, Keenan Allen and Sammy Watkins should be hogging the RB/WR, WR and WR/TE slots. Hell, even Tyler Eifert, who I really like, could sneak in there at times.

Graybill also has a nice sleeper pick in Jaelen Strong. #HardKnocks

Barring any injuries, the only way I see Graybill struggling this year would be if his No. 1 QB falters. Ryan Tannehill has high projections and experts are talking highly of him, but to me, I’m worried about consistency. Eight times, he finished below 20 points last year.

If Graybill can see the 20-plus point mark — preferably 25-plus — more than 10 times this year, he’ll be in the running for the NFC West crown.

That, or Jameis Winston blows us all away.

I expect Tannehill to come through just enough to send Graybill to the NFC’s top spot.

2014 Record, Finish: 8-5, 1st (as Chinese Organ Thieves)

Bombers look to uphold the winning tradition of the Organ Thieves
The Jersey Bombers finally got into the JFL.

He’ll tell you it took longer than it should, and maybe it did, but alas, he is here, and he’s ready to hit the ground running.

Well, that running on the ground will have to wait for after a two-game Le’Veon Bell suspension.

Bell dropped a bit last year, and all of us who passed him over paid for it. Once again, he dropped a bit in the JFL draft as several teams let him go.

Bombers didn’t let him fall to the third round like he did last year, taking him at No. 11. He’ll return in time for the Bombers second divisional matchup in Week 3.

Until then, it’s Lamar Miller, T.J. Yeldon and Christine Michael. Miller will get the start, while Yeldon and Michael are hopeful sleepers.

The Bombers is in good shape with Ben Roethlisberger, who was a value selection as a seventh-round keeper, but the Bombers doesn’t have a backup at this juncture. Injuries and the bye week will pose trouble for him.

But that’s not the end of the world. We saw Fear and Loathing roll off an 11-2 record with that one-QB strategy.

The real problem for the Bombers will be his receivers.

Once Week 3 hits, and Bell returns at RB, I imagine the Bombers will roll with two RBs and just one or two wideouts, because some weeks, he may be more comfortable with TEs Jordan Cameron or Dwayne Allen in the lineup.

Amari Cooper has the skills and the NCAA accolades, but he has a QB in Oakland who hasn’t proven himself yet. That’s why Michael Crabtree also is a question mark for the Bombers.

Charles Johnson is a favorite pick of many because of what experts deems as a “strong second half,” but really, he had one 100-yard game and just two TDs. I’m also not sold on his QB.

Fourth wideout Tyler Lockett is not consistent enough to be a threat. Bombers only hope is to play him on the one or two weeks when he does put up fantasy-worthy numbers.

All in all, the Bombers have a team that will compete for the division title, but unlike his predecessor, who won his fifth division title in 2014, he will come up short.

I have the Generals going worst to first in the NFC this year.

3. Team Boyer, a.k.a. Spacklers, a.k.a. Deckwing Ducks
2014 Record, Finish: 8-5, 2nd in NFC West
Career Record : 69-58-1
Playoff Record: 5-6

Brady or not, here he comes!
Team Boyer just couldn’t give up on Tom Brady.

But like Graybill, I think he missed a golden opportunity with the keeper system. He wound up drafting Jeremy Hill in the second round, 26th overall pick in the draft when he could have kept Hill as a 10th-round keeper. Tom Brady would have never been drafted in the first round so Boyer could have grabbed Le’Veon Bell, DeMarco Murray, Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson or Matt Forte — to name a few — in the first round. He could have even risked getting another top-tier position player in the second and then grab Brady in the third if he was that big on getting him back.

Just imagine. Hill in the 10th round with two more top-tier positional talents to go with Brady.

Instead, he has a suspended Brady and Hill in the second round.

OK, so he’s not suspended anymore, but he was when the draft took place, and there’s no way Brady would have gone before the third round.

Boyer still drafted a decent team, but to me, that decision is what separated him from winning the NFC West and now battling to get the wild card.

Alex Smith will be a decent backup, and that may come in handy if the NFL wins its appeal of Brady’s appeal.

Even if Brady stays on the field all year, he an Hill are by themselves at this point. The wide receiving corps is missing that big-name guy that he could have had.

Davante Adams has promise with the unfortunate injuries in Green Bay, and Anquan Boldin is steady. The other three — Kendall Wright, Brandon Coleman and Nate Washington — are all question marks in my mind.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Delanie Walker squeeze his way into the lineup due to poor WR production.

In the end, I have Boyer battling it out with the Bombers for the wild card.

Cut the cord, don't watch the news, it's going to stink this year
I keep seeing all these commercials begging local politicians to “Say no to a bad deal!”

Of course, they’re talking about Iran, but I wish someone would have ran the advertisement talking about the News Team.

His offseason deal was crippling. We thought it would be when it happened, and after the draft, it’s 100 percent clear that he sold the farm to grow golden corn in 2016.

With Aaron Rodgers coming back in the deal, the News Team gets five stars at that position, but with the picks he sent away, he was limited what he could do.

Rodgers was the first-round keeper, eighth overall, and that left News Team waiting until the 40th overall pick to make his first real selection, Emmanuel Sanders.

That’s a decent pick, but the seventh-highest scoring wideout from a year ago is alone with Rodgers on this team. Joique Bell is the top back, followed by three hopefuls. Sanders is grouped with a pair of WR hopefuls, and because of that, Antonio Gates or Ladarius Green will likely see some playing time this year at WR/TE flex.

Barring some huge sleeper payouts, the News Team is looking at a season that sends him to the No. 1 pick in 2016. If any of these late picks pay off, he’ll easily keep them, drop Rodgers, draft Rodgers and be a thousand steps closer to the playoffs than he is right now.

Maybe, just maybe, that’s the two-time JFL champions’ master plan.
