JFL Playoffs set to begin with a pair of rematches

For me, the 2015 JFL season was like an Antonio Brown punt return for a touchdown.

It was exciting and looked promising throughout with a few minor hurdles in between, but in the end, it was a goal post to the balls.

The Jerk scored more than 100 points for just the third time this year, and more than 90 for just the fifth, to drop my team to 7-6, and then Houserville somehow lost to Noise in one of his most lackluster performances of the season to eliminate my squad from the playoffs.

In summation, my doomed season comes down to four losses: the Jerk scored a combined 283.5 points in two matchups vs. me; the Noise won the tie-breaker because he put up 130 on a weekend when I had 109.3; and a 0.1-point loss to the Jawz.

One yard.

I missed the playoffs by 1 stinkin’ yard.

So, now it’s time for the JFL Postseason Challenge for me.

JFL PLAYOFFS
The Noise got a huge day out of Brandon Marshall, while Adrian Peterson had a season-worst 3.2 points for Houservile to oust me from the playoffs. That’s just great, considering all the flak I gave Peterson, and I still don’t like him. He should be banned from the JFL.

But nevertheless, he isn’t and Houserville fell to 11-2 and set up a quick rematch against the Noise, and at the end of the day, that’s probably better when you look at the averages.

Still, playing four starters ranked in the top 10 in their respective positions provides the Noise with a dangerous playoff team.

The other lower seed in the AFC, the Choo (8-5), is even more dangerous as the highest scoring team in the JFL. He won the regular-season points title, scoring 100 points yet again — fourth time this season, and eighth time he’s gone over 90.

He left points on the bench in Week 13, too, and he’ll unleash them all against the Jerk, who aside from 50.2 points from Marcus Mariota, was his normal self in Week 13. The big trade to Jawz paid off big time as it sent the Jammers packing.

Choo dominated the Jerk in Week 11, and lost by six points in Week 2. That loss sent Choo to 0-2 and had him screaming, “It’s baseball season. I’ll care later.”

He was right, winning eight of his final 11 games to lock up his first JFL playoff berth.

In the AFC, Chalupa’s dominance continued as he moved to 9-4, hitting 100 points for the fifth time this season in a 152.8-84.6 win over the Cheese Steaks, and as discussed last week, he finds himself facing the Steaks (7-6) again in the first round of the playoffs.

It would have been the Bombers had Le’Veon Bell remained healthy as his head-to-head tiebreaking loss to the Steaks was a 128.8-117.6 loss where Steelers backup DeAngelo Williams scored 36.9 points for the Steaks.

Graybill dominated the News Team, who got 35.2 of his 47.3 from Aaron Rodgers. Strangely, he had 118 points on his bench, including 52.4 from Cam Newton. News Team offered Newton to me for Lynch earlier in the season, and dammit, I didn’t say yes. Oops.

For the Generals, he stands as one of just two teams — the Toasters being the other — in the playoffs with a JFL Super Bowl title. The Jammers (two titles), News Team (two titles), Slackers and T-Money all missed the playoffs.

With six teams without titles in, including all four expansion teams from a year ago, it certainly means the trophy could be heading out to a new location. There’s also a strong chance the trophy is coming back to Pennsylvania, particularly the Lehigh Valley, where four playoff teams reside.

That means I have a chance to at least see the trophy first hand for the first time in three years.

JFL POSTSEASON CHALLENGE

The eight teams out of the playoffs will compete in the first round of the JFL Postseason Challenge, and even though you see “matchups,” it's the top four scoring teams from the four matchups that advance on to the second round where they’ll face the four teams eliminated from the first round of the JFL Playoff bracket.

The top four from that group advance to Week 16 where they'll add in the AFC and NFC Championship losers to form a field of six vying for the top two scores.
