Pitchers and catchers and ESPN report to JLB spring training

Pitchers and catchers have reported for 16 teams thus far, and 12 more report today, so it’s about time ESPN loaded up the new season.

It seems like every year they’re later and later with this thing.

It’s like they’re losing subscribers by the hundreds of thousands a quarter. … Oh wait, they are.

Oh well, their loss. Until the company folds, we’ll use their free fantasy service.

I'm sure they're all huddled around a computer in a board room trying to figure out ways to satisfy the customer.

At any rate, it's time to get down to business in the JLB, and the 2017 season should be a damn fun one if you ask me.

I’m really excited for all 12 owners and the conversations have been flowing on Facebook.

I’m going to have the Jargon as often as possible, but please, on days I can't post, step up and bring your conversation to Facebook. There’s so much baseball to talk about.

But for now, let’s talk JLB.

You'll notice no major changes for 2017 as we’ll keep the same setup for the most part. The only changes you’ll see for this season are as follows:

1) RP maximums, which were dropped for last season from 8 to 6 will be pushed back to 8. In theory, it was a good idea, but in practice, we saw the problems.

2) Waiver/free agent moves per week will be adjusted for the first time in JLB history, moving from 5 a week to 7 (which will be prorated, of course, for the matchups that are longer than a week. The “one move a day,” or in Choo’s case, seven moves by Tuesday at 4:14 p.m., will open the door to some good strategy. With the platooning and off days we’re seeing more and more in baseball, five just didn’t seem to cut it any more.

That’s all for now. Here are the major things to know and do now that the season had opened:

1. CHECK YOUR ROSTER FOR COMPLIANCE
Now that ESPN reset, you’re going to notice some of your RPs turning into SPs and RFs turning into CFs, etc. Make sure you’re still compliant and make the appropriate moves to get there.

I will be checking everyone’s rosters in the coming days, so I’ll catch it if you are not compliant.

Also note, I’ll be looking to see if your June draftees have made the ESPN player pool. If they have and you don’t wish to relinquish your rights to them, you must add them to your roster. You cannot trade to clear room for them. You must make a decision on whether you want them or not. (Note, if you say you’d like them on the roster now, it doesn’t mean you’re bound to keeping them come keeper deadline.)

2. DRAFT PICK TRADES
Please process all draft pick trades ASAP. I’d like to have them all squared away by the weekend.

3. DRAFT DETAILS
The draft is set for 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 28. You’ll see the draft time on ESPN is set for 8 p.m., but that’s just so the draft room can open at 7. I’ll hit pause at 8 p.m. and hit start when all 12 teams are ready, or when 9 p.m. hits.

Here’s the draft order, not including any first-round trades.
1. Big Ol' Country Breakfast
2. NJ Bombers
3. JimmyJam Slammers
4. Sex Panthers
5. Urban Achievers
6. Vandelay Industries
7. Philly Cheese Steaks
8. Big League Choo Jays
9. Steroid.ERA
10. Gameday Gamblers
11. Crox Sox
12. You're Freaking Out

4. KEEPERS
The keepers are due at 11:59 p.m., Monday, March 20. This will also be the deadline to let me know if you’re keeping the rights to any of your June Draftees.

You can also start submitting roster exceptions for keepers. For example, I can submit one if I wanted to for Andrew McCutchen, who is listed as CF but has been announced as the RF for the Pirates. Per JLB rules, I can keep him in either slot, but you have to submit a formal request for a position that is not listed by ESPN yet. Remember, it takes 10 starts at that position for ESPN to give them eligibility.
