An introduction to La Liga del Hockey Dieciséis

Hello, Jimmy’s Jargon here.

I know, some of you are wondering, “Who the hell is Jimmy’s Jargon?”

Well, that’s me. It’s my Twitter handle and it’s my blog for fantasy sports. I’m a former newspaper sports writer who has moved into multimedia, but I keep my “writing career” going here in the fantasy world.

I typically write for my fantasy baseball league and I occasionally write for my fantasy football league. That has fallen off because I don’t really like the NFL anymore. Fell out of love with that beauty three years ago.

But I digress, I’m a huge hockey fan and I’ve been dying to get into a die-hard hockey league. I tried running my own, but I just could corral enough hockey fans to play.

Finally, McGuirk came along and welcomed me in a year ago, and after a long 365 days, I finally sit in the League standings tied for first — and last at 0-0-0 — as the Konecny Dots.

Yes, I’m a Flyers fan (season ticket holder), and I know what you’re thinking: Great, he thinks his team is better than the Penguins and they will win the Stanley Cup.

To the contrary, I’ve predicted in September of the last two seasons that the Penguins would win the Stanley Cup. Didn’t look good that first year early on, but I told my friend — former Konecny Dots owner Joe Naretto — to calm down, “The Penguins are winning the Cup.”

So, yeah, I’m not your ordinary Flyers fan. I have realistic expectations: I think Crosby is indeed better than Giroux and I don’t think they’re winning the Cup this year.

That said, I do think they just sneak into the playoffs.

I think this defense is going to be a group we talk about for a while, led by Ivan Provorov. This kid is legit. It’s why I drafted him well before his ADP.

Great, he may not think the Flyers are winning the Cup, but he thinks he’s coming into La Liga del Hockey Dieciséis and winning it all.

Nope. I’m not thinking that either, my new hockey friends.

I’m not crazy. I know the history.

McGuirk and Marc have won the eight of the last nine championships. Marc, a.k.a., Another Victim, has four of the last six, and I see on his Yahoo! profile he also won in 2008 in another League, so he is clearly a force.

I’d be a fool to think I could just come in and win this championship.

I need at least a year to come in and see what this league is all about. I need to see why the hell Marc and McGuirk win all the time. And then, I will hopefully contend.

That said, like my Flyers, I think I’ll at least contend for a playoff spot this year. Guess it all comes down to my young Flyers.

So, what’s this Jargon all about?

Well, this is an introduction and the start of something new in La Liga. The Facebook page is where we can talk hockey all year long, and I’ll look to keep it fresh with some blog posts throughout the year, talking hockey and fantasy hockey. I’ll recap matchups in the League and I’ll talk NHL topics, too. Please, join in. I urge you to jump on the train, comment, write, post. Just have fun.

I was originally planning to write a season preview for La Liga, as I do for my baseball and football leagues, but I’m not confident enough to do that. I don't know the League well enough to write the way I'd like to write my previews, so I’ll aim to do that next year.

In the meantime, I'll get my feet wet and go for a warm-up skate in La Liga.

Good luck to everyone, except Another Victim.

He clearly doesn’t need it.
