Winter Meetings kick off after blockbusters — both in JLB & MLB

The Winter Meetings are here, and appropriately, when we look outside, there’s snow everywhere.

The JLB is all about making big moves when there’s snow on the ground. It seems like it’s a yearly tradition.

This year, the big move came before the snow fell: Tyler Lyons for Shin-soo Choo.

OK, so Choo wasn’t in the big deal, but he the man hitting accept.

Jose Altuve, the American League MVP, will move to Chooland for a chance to play with Nolan Arenado.

It will make for quite the offensive duo in the JLB’s American League, but it came at a cost — one that won’t truly be known for a little while.

Ronald Acuna and Shohei Ohtani come with all the hype, but can they live up to it and make me not regret one of the toughest deals I’ve ever had to make?

I remember when I traded Cole Hamels for a young rookie named Jose Altuve. I wanted to draft the future MVP, but I held out too long and missed out on him.

So, as it turns out, I also wanted to get Ohtani in our first June draft a few years ago, but I chose to save draft money in that old system — so silly now that I look back at it.

To get him now was unexpected. I was working with others on an Altuve deal when Choo made a competitive offer and I just couldn’t turn it down.

I'm still in a bit of shock. I can't believe I traded him. I almost didn't, but the morning of the deal, I was driving to work and thinking about one of the other offers on my table when I glanced at the vehicle in front of me.

I swear to you, I thought in that moment the label on the back read, "ACUNA."

After a second glance, I finally saw it for what it truly read, which was "ACURA."

Nevertheless, I believe in signs.

To me, that was my sign to make the deal.

Right about now, Crox is wishing I would have driven past a K-Mart truck.

His day only got worse when Giancarlo Stanton was traded in real life to his arch rivals, the Yankees.

That's two blockbusters in one day just hours away from the start of this year's Winter Meetings in Orlando.

So, who else will join Choo and I (and the Yankees) this offseason? Rumors are abound and I’m sure we’ll have some more big deals — perhaps even this week.

And that would be good. I've been itching for some Jargons to write.
