JLB PREVIEWS: Late menu changes make Breakfast even more interesting

I don’t even know why I’m trying to write this now (Monday night). It will likely change again. (Guess it won't now on Wednesday night.)

To give everyone some insight, I’ve jotted down three to four bullet points on each team and planned to talk about it.

For Sam, here is exactly what I wrote:

-       Gallo – Wildcard
-       Sam Smash! Projected 268 homers among starters
-       K-Force! Sale-Bauer-Ray
-       Eloy

That’s what I had.

Then he went and traded Joey Gallo for Billy Hamilton thus eliminating the first two notes.

You couldn’t wait three days to do this deal?

Come on!

The season is long. There’s plenty of time. And you’re in good shape to make the playoffs for the third straight season.

For Breakfast, it has been a fun run, and a consistent one.

We’ve all seen — or should have seen the stat on Khris Davis batting .247 for four straight seasons.

Well, Sam was trying his best to do something similar. After winning the American League regular-season crown in 2017 with a 224-177-61 mark, he won the League again in 2018 with a 225-176-61 record.

One category off.

If you believe in trends, Sam should be well on his way to a third straight division title and a 226-175-61 record.

Why do we even play?

GALLO — WILDCARD
Yes, I’m not changing. Why should I? I’m not the one who sucks.

So, I had Gallo as a wildcard, and I guess in a way, he still is. But instead of cashing in for 40-plus homers and 90-plus RBIs, Breakfast will add a boatload of steals through Billy Hamilton.

With Trea Turner and Starling Marte already on roster, it’s a safe bet that Breakfast will swipe the steals category on a weekly basis.

SAM SMASH!
Even with the departure of 40-plus homers, Breakfast still has JD Martinez, Anthony Rizzo and Anthony Rendon — to name a few.

Martinez leads the way after smashing 43 homers and driving in 130 last year while batting .330. It is insane just how insane his career has blossomed.

I remember back in 2012 drafting him for fantasy and declaring him a breakout candidate. He failed and eventually was sent packing by both Houston and myself.

A few years later when he returned on the scene in Detroit, I made sure to bring him back — and Choo made fun of my love for him.

I wish I still had him today.

Breakfast certainly is glad I do not.

ELOY
You know what Sam is really missing in this lineup: a left fielder with superstar potential.

Oh, wait.

Eloy Jimenez is going to play Opening Day. That adds potentially 20 more homers and 80 more RBIs based on projections.

If the scouts and experts are right, it will be more than that — and Sam will ruin the trend and win way more than 225 categories.

K-FORCE
When three guys are projected to put up more than 650 strikeouts all by themselves, you’re in good shape to own a few pitching categories on a weekly basis.

Chris Sale, Robbie Ray and offseason acquisition Trevor Bauer will really be a force in the JLB.

And if you face Sam on a week when two or three of them are lined up to have double-starts, may the baseball gods have mercy on you.

Just put up the white flag and throw six openers in hopes to just skate by and steal some categories.
