Best, but busiest time of the year

The Stanley Cup Playoffs began Wednesday night.

It’s a bit sour for me considering the fact that there isn’t a Flyers playoff matchup that I can watch and be frustrated with over a week span until their inevitable elimination.

That said it’s still one of the greatest sports spectacles we have. Two months of pure excitement on ice.

I love it.

I also love baseball.

How can I possibly keep track of everything? Add in the fact that spring championship season at my work kicks off next week — six straight weeks of 10 championship events — and I’m going to be a busy man.

Oh, and Game of Thrones is back this Sunday!

Is there any way we can do some real good in Washington and pass a bill that changes the seven-day week to nine or 10 days?

Since that isn’t happening, don’t be surprised if I miss a few more daily Jargons here and there.

JOSE IS BACK
And to all those people who put together preseason rankings that gave up on Jose Altuve, shame on them.

Altuve is back in a big way, batting .320 with five homers, eight RBIs, eight runs scored, five walks and a stolen base.

Four of those five homers have come in the last three games — his best Trout impersonation.

He also started the season 1-for-13 so after three games, there was a bit of a worry that perhaps the naysayers were right, but since then, he’s batting .405.

BIG DOGS DOWN
It was not a good Tuesday for superstars.

Mike Trout and Alex Bregman both left games early — although it seems to be minor strains for both — while Yankees fans got word of Luis Severino suffering a setback. The Indians Mike Clevinger also was placed on the IL with a 6-8 week timeline.

It looks like both Dude and Monkey will avoid major injury with their AL MVP candidates, but nonetheless, seeing the red flags next to their prized stars has to be a bit unnerving.

YU MADE A MISTAKE
The Cheese Steaks threw that old, bulky 4:3 ratio, 41-inch television out on the curb.

He was willing to do anything to avoid having the trashman charge him a haul-away fee for a large heavy object.

Days, months went by, and no one passing by looked at the cardboard sign with the word FREE painted on it and thought, Man, that would look good in my living room.

Then, days before he would have to give up and pay the trashman, Parker Dunbar drove up and made the Cheese man smile.

You (Yu) may see where I’m going with this.

Cheese knew all offseason he didn’t want Yu.

I’m not even sure why he traded for him. The day he acquired him, I told Crox, “No way Yu makes it to Opening Day on the Cheese.”

I was right.

And now, the Gamblers’ huge gamble is not paying off.

Another five runs — four earned — in a loss to the Pirates on Wednesday piled on to what has been a miserable start to 2019.

He gave up three runs in each of his first two starts where he combined to walk 11.

In total, Darvish has given up 11 runs — 10 earned — on 12 hits and 11 walks in 12 innings of work. He’s currently got a .750 ERA and a 1.917 WHIP.

Now, he lost a pick for this deal and had to drop Julio Teheran, who hasn’t been great, but one bad game has him sitting at a 6.00 ERA. Teheran at least has a 1-1 record and a 17:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

He also has the promise to be a decent starter at times this season.

Darvish? Who the hell knows.
