Dude, Breakfast on to the World Series yet again

The Dude and the Breakfast are back in the World Series. Over the last three seasons, at least one of them have been there, and together, they have ruled the JLB, combining to win the last three World Series.

That trend will continue for a fourth year since they're both still around for this World Series.

For Breakfast, this is his fourth World Series appearance in six seasons. He's 2-1 having won his last two, including last year's title over the Steaks.

The Dude won in 2020, his only appearance, and a win this year will help absolve him of the asterisk he earned for winning in a Covid shortened season.

To get there, he needed fend off the No. 3-seeded Slammers, and with a lop-sided score all week, it really came down to Sunday, and in many ways, it came down to what the Dude did during the NLDS.

He made the most of the bye week, stacking up on players who were very much needed offensively.

That included David Peralta — picked up Sunday before the NLCS — who went 5-for-19 with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, 3 walks and 2 sacrifices.

Then there's Garrett Cooper — picked up Saturday before the NLCS — who went 4-for-14 with 3 runs, a homer, 3 RBIs and 2 walks.

Ten more hits came from guys who were added in prep or during the week. In total, the Dude added 19 hits with these free agents acquisitions, and with the majority of them being singles — a category that was won by 6 — it was a major difference.

So, it shows, it pays to have that bye week.

It also pays to have a damn good team, and that's what Sam has. Even with a bit of a struggling offense last week, he handled Crox in the ALCS 17-5, and that came with a big win in pitching. Breakfast went 9-1-2 with his arms and his only loss came in complete games, which Crox nabbed on Monday.

Sam's pitching went 8-4 with 2.05 ERA, 0.970 WHIP and 98 Ks to 19 walks. Pretty ridiculous. But that's what happens when you make smart ads like Spencer Strider back in April. He was Sam's pitcher of the week with 19 Ks and a 2.45 ERA in two starts.

His other add, this one in May, Oscar Gonzalez, led the way on the offensive side with a team-best 11 hits, including a pair of homers. Gonzalez has quietly put up a .293 average in 76 games with 25 doubles, 9 homers and 36 RBIs.

May need to have a consulting day with the Breakfast and Dude scouting departments. They certainly do well with free agents.

We can schedule that in 2 weeks after they're finished figuring out who's getting their name etched in the trophy once again.

And by etched in the trophy once again, I mean, someday added to it with all the rest of the names that need to be retroactively included. So many Steaks.
