JLB Winter Meetings open on Monday

The JLB Winter Meetings kick off on Monday, and for a second straight season, we have seen a lot of trade activity in the four weeks prior to the meetings, which means we may be in for another dull week.

Choo is the primary culprit for this as he was the most active sending players all over the place in order to get Ohtani.

End of the day, he's sent out: Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Rodon, Ryan Pressly, Paul Goldschmidt, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Bryan Reynolds, Kevin Gausman, Manny Machado and Gerrit Cole.

You know, basically an entire fantasy lineup.

In return, he has Tyler O'Neil, Shohei Ohtani, Ketel Marte, Christopher Morel, Ezequiel Tovar, Matt Chapman, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer.

You know, not a fantasy lineup.

Sure, Ohtani is a huge get because he gets to keep a quality SP at DH, but the aging aces and the five position players (arguably several are not even keepers) are a significant drop from Machado-Seager-Reynolds-Semien-Goldschmidt-Schwarber-Bryant.

By far one of the more baffling two weeks in JLB history for Choo. He went from having a jam-packed, mashing lineup with several MVP candidates to Shohei. The five position players acquired are all in the 100s and 200s in fantasy rankings. The majority of the players sent out are in the top 50.

Seriously, look at this. A healthy Ronald Acuna is great, of course, but there are significant holes here.

He should have been Punxsutawney Choo: He could have come out of his hole on Feb. 2 only to run back in after seeing his shadow and emerge six weeks later for the JLB Draft with his entire 2022 roster in tact. That would have been best for him.

But alas, we all know the roster Choo starts with in April is never the roster he finishes with, but this will certainly be an interesting starting group.

He can at least add to that group in the Green Draft, which could be the only excitement we see this week. It starts at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, and will continue through the close of the meetings on Saturday.

The deadline to trade green minor leaguers or drop green minor leaguers to gain draft slots is 11:59:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

The draft list will be finalized in the morning on Jan. 12.

Right now, as it stands, there are 27 picks on the board with 11 of 12 teams in the draft. The World Series Champs are currently sitting out the draft, while only four teams have more than one open spot. Of course, this could change, but here is the draft as of right now:
