S-Scale predicts Dude over Topton in 2023 World Series

The Slammer S-Scale is back and if it manages to be right again in 2023, we will see two new playoff teams, a close battle at the top of the NL and a new AL king.

That's if you believe in this sort of thing.

I'd like to not believe it this year considering where it has the Bensalem Slammers.

Last year, it had all six playoff teams right and it almost had the seeding right with the only issue being that the Steaks and Dude were flip-flopped.

It was not a bad return for the much-made-fun-of prediction system.

As a reminder to how the S-Scale is set up, the system takes the projected stats from your best starting lineup, plus one bat, and all of your pitchers on active roster (or if a minor leaguer is projected to play all season) to come up with totals in each category for the season.

Each total is matched up with the totals of others in your division, and you are assigned a number—6 if you are the best, 5 for second best, and so on. Your numbers are added up to project where you will finish.

This system can be flawed at times because where as someone getting a 3 for being far behind in homers is certainly different than someone getting a 3 for being just a few behind in RBIs. So you may actually be competitive in a category but your score did not truly reflect that you're going to win that category more times than not in 2022.

That happened big time in the AL in batter walks/HBP as the second- through fourth-place teams had 701, 700 and 699 projected walks/HBP. ... That, of course, meant that Breakfast, sitting with the 699, got only 3 points whereas Crox picked up 5 points.

I also think the system is a bit more flawed this year in that there are several players out there whose projections are a bit wild, in both directions, and it's why I truly believe we'll have the most competitive JLB season in years — maybe most all-time.

But I'll leave that for another Jargon and the season previews.

Let's finally get to it, your S-Scale projections:

What's abundantly clear from this is the Topton Tornadoes are ready to mash. He picked up six 6s on the batting side. The NL was tied before Hoskins got knocked out so I couldn't in good faith keep Hoskins' projections in there. That subtracted only one point from the Nutz total, and that point went to the Dude to give him the title of NL favorite.

He also is the World Series favorite as he wins in the head-to-head, taking 12 of 20 projected categories from Tommy to win the World Series.

So there you have it. The Dude takes down the Tornadoes for the 2023 title.

Why should we even play?
