Silent Night: JLB Winter Meetings start with a whisper

There is no need for AI assistance today to write the Day 1 JLB Winter Meetings recap.

Yukon Cornelius threw his ice pick up in the air, it flipped and fell and pierced the ice floor. He picked it up and licked the steel.

"Nothing."

That summed up Day 1 of the JLB Winter Meetings.

There were plenty of rumors and talks, that's for sure, but nothing panned out. Choo thought he had sent off the reigning AL MVP, but the Bensalem Slammers balked at a mega-deal involving the true NL Rookie of the Year.

This was especially odd considering that typically, the JLB sees a few trades right away when the new season opens, and then the Winter Meetings usually bring about a few deals right away — especially when there are several owners who have rosters that look like the Island of Misfit Toys.

Maybe we were all still stunned from the Juan Soto deal.

Maybe we just wanted to keep me from having to use AI to sum up the details of a deal.

As the Cheese Steaks told me late last night, "There's always tomorrow."

Well, it's tomorrow. Let's make the Day 2 recap have more substance!
