JLB Draft: Day One

Day one of the 2022 JLB Draft is in the books with Crox announcing that he's going to bed. (Don't blame him. I can confirm he's not the only JLB member to shuffle off to bed before the fourth round came to an end.)

Forty-two total picks on day one and just 10 hours of the clock running. Not bad at all!

I was rather busy today, as was the Gamblers. In total, JLB members had 16 notifications popped up with our names on it. The two basement dwellers of the JLB were busy on Sunday as 16 of the first 40 picks belonged to them.

But will they be there for long?

"Between high leverage bullpen arms and high octane Braves bats, this could be the year that the Slammers and Gamblers bid the basement goodbye," the Cheese Steaks said, reacting to their big day in the draft.

Parker finished up Sunday with six pitchers — two starters, four relievers — and two bats, Josh Donaldson and Tommy Edman. The Slammers also went with four relievers and two starters, but one of the relievers is slated to be a starter so let's call it three and three. I also picked up a pair of Atlanta outfielders in Marcell Ozuna and Eddie Rosario.

The four position players selected by both of us were among the few taken on Day 1.

All told, only 13 drafted players don't pitch.

That means there are plenty of position players out there heading into Day 2. ... Which has to be a bit of a nightmare for the couple teams entering Day 2 having made only a pick or two.

The Stantonians made their first three picks and not one of them involved a reliever. Marcus Stroman was the first overall pick, which in my mind, he should have been. He had the strongest track record and most upside with a new team of any pitcher in the draft.

Certainly a million grades better than Archie Bradley.

They also added C.J. Cron in the second round, which was a great add. Cron was really good in Colorado last year, and in that bolstered lineup, Cron should be once again. For the Stantonians, they'll be able to slot Austin Meadows into LF now, Trey Mancini to DH and Cron to 1B.

They'll make the seventh pick of Day 2 when Round 4 continues ... whenever Crox wakes up.
